Series: Bishop/ Special Crimes Unit #1
Rating: 5 stars - I loved it!

Psychic Cassie Neill helps the L.A. police catch killers by getting into their minds. When she makes a mistake and a child dies she flees to a small North Carolina town hoping for a quiet life. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stay quiet for long.

I picked this book up because I saw a fellow book blogger recommend this series. I love a good psychic paranormal book so I instantly picked this book up. I couldn’t put this book down. It was captivating from the very beginning and I couldn’t predict what was going to happen next.

Cassie has spent her life being able to get into the minds of killers. She is a very tough and independent woman, but she is also very fragile and lonely. Her abilities were fascinating and I loved that she didn’t let her fear prevent her from using them to stop a killer. Ben was a surprisingly charming and protective man. I loved his protectiveness towards Cassie and how he would make sure she was taking care of herself. Their relationship was slow building which I think worked perfectly with the rest of the story.

The serial killer in this book was very fascinating. It was unpredictable and I wasn’t expecting the twist at the end. I really enjoyed Hooper’s writing style, especially with such a tense story. It made this book hard to put down and I really want to read the next book now, especially since it appears to be the mysterious Bishop’s book. I highly recommend this book if you are into romantic suspense, especially ones with psychics.

Psychic Cassie Neill fled three thousand miles from Los Angeles to Ryan's Bluff, North Carolina, after a little girl was butchered because Cassie couldn't "see" the killer's location clearly enough.

Despite wanting a quiet life, she senses a killer planning a murder in the small town, warning both Sheriff Matt Dunbar and former Judge, now District Attorney Ben Ryan. Unfortunately she doesn't have enough information to point to either the killer or the victim.

As the body count rises, the Sheriff is under increasing pressure, the town's mood shifting from fear to anger. It isn't long before word gets out about Cassie's involvement, putting her in danger from the killer. But there is more swirling around than even Cassie suspects.

Intense, with a fine appreciation of the bad and good for the various kinds of psychics. Although listed as the first in the Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series, we don't even meet Noah Bishop until well into the book. He's more a lurker than a main character. We do learn a bit about him, tiny hints waiting to be expanded upon in future books in the series.

Hooper has provided well-developed characters inhabiting a small town that reflects the idiosyncrasies found in small towns across America. Set in 1999, it is a brilliant weaving of mystery, romance, paranormal talents, and lots of wonderful dogs. She has expanded upon the type of stories she once wrote for Loveswept, but being in the mainstream allows her more scope and detail as well as a balance in the various elements contained in her writing. This reread shows that the book still works, not dated in the slightest. Still 4.5 out of 5.

Very good book will keep you guessing until the very end. I really liked the characters too.

This book was among the Romance Package of audible. I was a bit tired to listen to sweet romance books, and I have decided to listen to this one. This is on a little dark side, which I really appreciated this time!

I like the psychic aspect of this story. She can go into the mind of the murderer. I liked the scenes that involve her using this ability.

Romance aspect was not that strong in this book, which I liked. I happened to read the No. 6 book long time ago. I don't remember nothing at all... maybe I should read the series in order...

I absolutely loved this book! I normally don't read very many adult books, but this has opened my eyes to a genre that is definitely done better for an adult audience (gore-y mysteries that include paranormal cops). I have already read quite a few from this series and I love that I don't have to read the books in order, or all of them for that matter, for the series to make sense. In each book we are introduced to new characters so each can be read as a standalone. I love the paranormals in this book and found the concept so interesting. This book had me hooked from the very beginning. The only thing I didn't like about this book (and I have found it is a recurring theme in the series) is that the ending is pretty vague. I believe it is the author allowing the reader to come up with their own interpretation and theories, so I get it now, but when I first read this one it was kind of a let down. I will definitely be continuing with this series and will be keeping my eyes open for more adult books with this kind of subject.

My friend-swap partner picked this book for me, so I decided to give it a try. It begins with Cassie running away from things in her past, but it seems the past has caught up with her.

After moving into a new town, she gets insight about a murder fixing to take place, the problem is that it's not just one person who will be killed, but many. Cassie will do what she can to inform the local sheriff and his best friend Ben. However, that doesn't turn out at all like Cassie thought it would.

Now, she must use her gifts to help them before it is too late, but there may be something deeper going on than anyone could guess.

This book was pretty interesting. It had a great plot line, with lots of twists and turns that made it very enjoyable.

But, I really didn't like Cassie all that much. She really annoyed me most of the book, and I was a little frustrated with how the relationship between herself and Ben progressed.

Other than that I liked this story, and how it had different point of views, and a little bit more in it than just the main story line.
