After finishing Darkhouse, I decided to continue the rest of the series immediately. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the first book, but I own all of the books and figure I need to give it a fair chance. Red Fox was better than Darkhouse and a lot creepier. Perhaps I just find the idea of lighthouse ghosts a lot less intriguing than Native American legends.

Perry and Dex were a lot better in Red Fox. They operated better as a team and there was a lot more relationship development, tension, and all that good stuff that keeps me on my toes. The case was creepy and I never knew what was going on. Like Perry, I wasn’t sure if I could even trust Dex. Who could be trusted? What was really happening? And how would Perry and Dex come out on top?

I’m definitely more intrigued now by the two characters and their whole ghost thing. I will continue the series. I’m not sure if I really love or would recommend the series just yet, which is a little disappointing considering most of the fans were in love from book 1, but I’ll keep going.

Short review while I'm on vacation:

Much like the first in this series, [b:Red Fox|4184453|The memoirs of Chief Red Fox|Chief Red Fox|/assets/nocover/60x80.png|4231768] was interesting, but not entirely riveting. [a:Karina Halle|4785031|Karina Halle|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1333997846p2/4785031.jpg] is a master at creating a dark, suspenseful atmosphere that keeps the reader on his/her toes throughout the book.

The major shortcoming for me is still the characters. Don’t get me wrong. I do really like Perry, and Dex is sexy and mysterious. But I think Perry is just, dare I say it, too real for me. It’s nice to have a heroine who isn’t stick-thin, with a perfect body and perfect personality. On the other hand, I don’t need to be reminded of it every second page. Perry is tough and has a fantastic attitude, but her continuous preoccupation with being less pretty or thin than other girls was annoying. As for Dex, I dig a mysterious man, but not one who we NEVER get to know.

While Halle is great at creating a suspenseful atmosphere, I still think her writing could be a little tighter. If the premise of there books wasn't so interesting, I might be tempted to leave the series here, but I'll definitely be continuing.

I liked this one! The realism was a really refreshing part of it. The mystery wasn't very hard to figure out but there were still some horror moments. Plus all the rampant sexual tension! LOL

I really enjoyed this continuation of Perry's and Dex's adventures. This time, they are investigating strange happenings at a farm in New Mexico. The only weird thing was that they were here to film, but they didn't do much filming. The story evolved more around their investigation and getting to know each other better. There's lots of sexual tension here!

I loved the smooth flow of the writing and easy readability. Sometimes it's hard to get into first person writing, but the author captures Perry's voice exceedingly well. Dex is certainly growing on me, but Perry continues to be awesome. This is a series I definitely plan to continue reading!

NOTE: I saw a few editing errors, such as strikeouts left in the Kindle version and one sentence that was not completely edited (i.e., to remove the word being replaced). Paragraphs were not indented, but they were separated by a blank line, so that made this book MUCH easier to read than the first one.

Seriously loving these books. The series format allows for many new settings, new characters and new stories. Perry and Dex hold things together, being at the center of it all. Their relationship, or rather non-relationship, has progressed slightly from its beginnings in Darkhouse. I was both frustrated and happy with the pacing at which things moved in that regard. I know I said in my last review that books didn’t have the same scare factor that movies did, but this one pushed things closer. The paranormal has been amped up and so has the danger. Red Fox is one creepy book!

Creepy

There are still a ton of errors in this story, grammatically and formatting wise.

The story is good though, and the sexual tension is high.
Worth it

Fun follow up to The Darkhouse, progressing the story and leaving lots of questions unanswered. I'm looking forward to glomming some more.
