Questo non è stato il mio primissimo approccio con Il signore degli anelli, in quanto, a sedici anni, provai a leggerlo, ma mi fermai a un terzo del primo volume. Ora, invece, la lettura è stata scorrevole e agevole. Non mi aspettavo di trovare un libro così avvincente e intrigante. Davvero, alla fine di ogni tappa, non riuscivo a fermarmi perché volevo sapere che cosa sarebbe successo a Frodo e ai suoi amici.
Per quanto riguarda la trama, non penso ci sia bisogno di riassumerla.
Vorrei, però, spendere due parole sulla traduzione di Ottavio Fatica. Trovo che sia stato alzato un polverone inutilmente. Mi spiego meglio: la nuova traduzione è fatta bene, anche se, come tutte le traduzioni, ha dei difetti o dei termini che posso suonare in maniera inusuale. Tradurre è un mestiere faticoso e minuzioso, ma che, a fine lavoro, gratifica e ripaga di tutte le ore perse a scervellarsi. Criticare la traduzione per partito preso, senza averla confrontata con l'originale, lascia il tempo che trova.
È sempre un rischio toccare e ritradurre un libro amato da molti, ma bisogna aggiornare le traduzioni perché, molte volte, un classico o un libro ci sembrano noiosi proprio perché si tratta di traduzioni vetuste. Come la lingua italiana si innova e cambia, così si dovrebbe riammodernare le traduzioni. Non dico che questa traduzione sia migliore o peggiore della precedente, vorrei solo far capire che è frutto di un lavoro certosino e Fatica non è un traduttore alle prime armi, anzi. Tradurre le canzoni e le poesie presenti nel libro in rima non sarà stato sicuramente facile, quindi vorrei che leggeste questa traduzione senza alcun pregiudizio. Leggere un libro amato in un’altra traduzione è sempre istruttivo perché ci dà uno sguardo diverso sul testo e, forse, potrebbe aprirci un aspetto che, a prima lettura, non avevamo scoperto.
Cosa ne pensate di questa nuova traduzione? Avete letto ‘Il signore degli anelli’? Qual è il vostro personaggio preferito? Io, devo ammettere, ho un debole per Sam Gamgee.

Overall, the lord of the rings - fellowship of the ring is the typical fantasy adventure book. However, although there was some character development throughout all the characters I didn’t feel like I knew the characters? If that makes sense. So, a little bit of controversy with this one! I know I have rated it quiet low but there is a few reasons why. I found all of the singing and poetic elements that would take forever to pass rather annoying and pointless.
I understand it’s probably meant to be insight into who the characters are and how the come to be etc etc but honestly it felt more as though these times were used to fill time and space.
I did enjoy the last few chapters of the book due to their anticipation for the next and the beginning of the new adventure but I’m slightly concerned that this series may be one of my first DNFs
