The story lacks high stakes and, you know, a bit of adrenaline or something? I can't say I was bored; it's a good story, but I wasn't worried about any of the characters at any point. There was no sense of danger when I was reading it, and I think it would've benefited from having it.
Also, I didn't quite get what the point of the game was, what indicated winning or losing.
Isis was probably my favorite character, and Death at the beginning was pretty cool and funny.

And here is where I experienced the absolute agony of having to speed through a book before it was due back at the library but wanting to savor it forever.

A fascinating story. I will absolutely have to read it again because I am quite convinced, that I was unable to appreciate all the little details and the foreshadowing in this first read. I was pretty confused at thr beginning with all the flashbacks and the many people that are a central part of the story and I'm sure I still haven't put everything together, but I suppose this active mystery of trying to figure out the connections and the history makes this book even more interesting.

Oh and also I just really like stories about and with and by death so this checks all the boxes.

The romances also absolutely work for me and I am glad for the ending everything got.

I loved this book and the whole cast of characters. A beautiful story about life and love, that I WILL be returning to because I feel it has so much to offer on a reread!!!
