Six months into her pregnancy, Lady Kiera Darby has been invited to Duchess of Bowmontʼs Twelfth Night party. She and her husband Sebastian Gage are looking forward to relaxing and having some fun. But some of the relationships among the Bowmont family seem strained and it only gets worse when a body is discovered in the catacombs below the house.
No one can identify the corpse but suspicion is quick that it is that of the Duchess's son-in-law who has supposedly been in France for almost a month. But is that really who it is? And why is somebody stealing the evidence that points to that being the case?
The mystery was a little convoluted but I enjoyed getting to know Kiera a little better in this book and seeing how her husband respects what it is that she does.

I was not feeling this but it could have been me. I found the mystery boring because I didn't find it compelling and there was so many characters that I didn't know much about them to to care about what was happening to them. But I did like the comfort of being back with the main characters so I'm rounding this up to 3.

I really like all the Lady Darby mysteries. In this eight installment of the series, Anna Lee Huber creates a mystery that is filled with some nice sleight of hand (and physical danger) for our heroes. Though I will say the wandering through the crypt was extra creepy, and the Twelfth Night party seems like it could be a good time—though some things that happened felt like they were never fully explained. That being said, it was nice to also find out more about our resident scoundrel Lord Marsdale, and the seeds for some future conflicts.

Looking forward to more!

Lady Darby and Gage are two of my favorite gothic sleuths at present. This series continues to have good solid mysteries along with the creepy castle, requisite ghost sightings, and over indulged aristocracy. This installment includes another step in the Bree/Anderley romance as well as the continuing great romance between Keira and Sebastian. Fantastic escapist reading in turbulent times! I was lucky to get my copy from #netgalley but I would have read it anyway!

Fantastic book, loved more time with these characters! And the mystery was really entertaining! Another great read, though I hope she patches things up with her sister!

ARC provided by Edelweiss.

This was a solid addition to the series. The characters remain interesting and show growth in personality and relationships. I look forward to learning more about the new members of the Gage family in subsequent volumes.
