Penultimate Book and it shines as such
Patrick's twisted web of promises to the God's while trying to protect the pack he hasn't actually told his job about finally collapses in on him and watching the pack protect him and fight to earn recognition from the city as the one true God pack of NYC was great. All the things I've come to love about this series shine here. I was on the edge of my seat yelling and cheering as they navigate trying to protect the packs under their protection and still keeping Patrick on the right side of the God's that keep extracting promises out of him. I can't wait to see how the series wraps up in the next book and this one got us ever so closer to having hope it might all work out in the end.

It feels like this series has been going on for several years. It's almost hard to believe that we're approaching the finish line. Though this installment definitely lets you know that the end is nigh.
From the start of the series, there have been two main storylines. The more dominant is the one involving Ethan and the Dominion Sect, and the slightly less pressing, emphasis on slightly, is the one with the other New York god pack. In this book, the latter conflict comes to a head and is put to rest in a spectacular fashion.
It seems that Turner decided she was done takes things slowly. So everything was non-stop from the beginning. Patrick's case put him in a complicated position because it involved Estelle's pack. And being the alpha of a rival pack caused a conflict of interest. Only, his alpha status isn't known at his job, so he's stuck between a rock and a hard place. Not to mention, there was an assassination attempt on him or Jono like every other chapter. Add in a bunch of gods being a pain in the ass and...
This was one of those books that's hard to put down. Like, I knew that neither Patrick nor Jono would die, but having read other Hailey Turner novels, I know she's fully capable of inflicting damage without killing.
The pace of the novel is fast, the stakes are very high, and... I'm not sure what new stuff there is to say here. I've been a fan of this series since book 1, and I've liked every installment. This one is more climactic and urgent than most of the others have been. But otherwise, there's not much that makes it different from them. Though I will say that I'm pleased with how the author has set the stage for the last book. I'm also glad she decided to conclude one of the main plotlines in this book. And I really like the way she did it.
I'm both excited and worried about the next book. I've comes to care so much about these characters, and again, I just want Patrick to be well-rested and well-fed. Is that really such a big ask? I already know that he's going to need years of therapy after this shit is over, possibly a lifetime of it.
But Patrick's sanity aside, I'm also really looking forward to what the author will write after the series ends, even though that's still months off. For now, I can only await the end and hope that it's great.

I really took my time reading this because each chapter I read, I was that much closer to finishing the book and the feeling of dread, seeing the way things were going, was increasing.

But as Patrick realizes, if things haven't gone that way for him then he wouldn't have Jono and his pack and family.
As all of Hailey's stories and especially this series, the 6th book is a roller coaster of emotions, with plenty a mix of gods that come for aid and/or hindrance for their selfish reasons. Bonds are growing stronger, steadier, sturdier and deeper and as we are at the final stretch for the conclusion of the series every bit of faith will be needed and tested.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes.
Did it have almost no sex scenes? Also yes.
Obviously I’m not here just for the sex, and I should be grateful that the novel wasn’t forced into a predictable formula. Except I can’t help feeling like Patrick needed a bit more intimacy in the ending than he got.
As for the plot, overall it’s fine, but the mechanism for it to work is nagging at me. I understand that for the events in the story to escalate, there needs to be free rein for the baddies to attack. However, I’m not buying the excuse that the cops have zero probable cause to arrest people who are hosting demons. Legit, there should already be some sort of law against being a demon host that would get people arrested or at least forced into an exorcism. Find a mage or priest or whoever to check the person’s aura for black magic. In the early books, there was a big emphasis on cleaning souls that came in contact with hellish energy, so why not now? Why does a werewolf pack accused of housing demons not get penalized for that? This is where my suspended of disbelief is threadbare.
Also, maybe it’s me, but if Ethan was trying to setup Patrick with the murder of Youssef, that means Ethan already figured out that Patrick is still alive. It’s just never explained when and how. He couldn’t use the twin power if he didn’t know they were twins. So that’s bugging me as well.
I do still want to see this through to the end. There’s some really interesting worldbuilding, and no matter what gods are introduced, it never feels like jumping the shark. Plus the relationship building is solid across the board. That takes skill.

It was so good! Seeing the character development of Jono and how far he’s come since meeting Patrick has been amazing. The fact that he’s defeated Estelle and her god pack and standing up to her for murdering Yusef made me so happy. I can’t wait until the next book to see how they defeat the dominion sect.

Really enjoyed this book. The pacing and threats reminded me of the first ones which is nice considering it's almost the end of the series.
I've come to adore these characters so much that I'm over the moon in these tiny glimpses when they get to be happy because they deserve it.
Will start the new one right away, curious to see how it all wraps up!

Great addition to the series
I feel like Patrick gets himself into situations that look like there is no escape from and then the fun starts listening to the way it works itself out
The gods in this series always surprise me with how blasé they are with Patrick and just how much pain he goes through. There is no care from either side about him, Only so long as it fits their agenda.
Jono and the pack are the only ones that stick by him regardless of what he can do for them.
Loved the introduction of the newer gods.
Can't wait to see where this all ends

Well, looks like AN ECHO IN THE SORROW did not come to play! I really loved this one and other than the first book it's probably my favorite so far because it was so emotional. Patrick is put through the ringer in this one but he has the support of Jono, Wade, and his pack. As much as it hurt to see Patrick going through being arrested and accused of murder, as well as having all his secrets exposed, I was happy to see him fully lean into his pack's comfort. I don't know what's going to happen in the last book but I can tell it's going to be intense!
