2⭐️. It’s a no from me dawg. I didn’t hate this one but I did think it was trying to do too much - romance? fantasy? sci fi? historical fiction? sort of literary? pick a lane or two, my dude. I think the plot got a bit lost in the sauce so I was pretty bored most of the way through. I did listen on audio and liked the narrator, but despite that maybe I would’ve done better with the print version? Idk. This cover is so pretty and I can’t help but feeling a LITTLE BETRAYED but it’s fine I’m fine
Shea Earnshaw always makes me want to unravel the mystery. Always set in a modern dated world. Always an X element. Very good. Very enjoyable. Glad to have found this author.
3.5 stars — I loved the multi-genre aspect of this book. It’s not just one thing and I was captivated by the freshness of the Wild West setting but also space. The main romance didn’t quite hit for me, but if there’s a part 2 that could be built upon?

Can't do it anymore. Between the way too long chapters (50 pages is ridiculous) combined with the repetitive language (if I have to read 'my/her/his/their eyes clicked' one more time, I was gonna lose it), meandering pace, and way too vague plot, I've had it.
I don't mind slow burns, don't even mind when the plot is left up in the air a bit but this book wouldn't let you know ANYTHING until the very end and even then it's such a 'wtf'. Yes, I gave up and skipped to the end and I'm not exaggerating when I say you don't learn anything until the last bit of this book.
And when the twist hit, it was so stupid I couldn't even be mad, I just sighed and felt tired. Turns out they're not even on Earth and YET, they see the constellations as we do, have the exact same flora and fauna as us, and their world is stuck in an Old West setting. Nothing makes sense here. The astronomy throughout the book is wrong, the fact the Architect and Astronomer didn't just stay with the crashed ship makes no sense, the fact they hoarded information is mind-boggling. Just all a big mess.
The romance was...lmao. Holy piss poor. Didn't care. The characters were one-dimensional and whilst I get that Vega lived her whole life in the valley, her ignorance and lack of self-preservation really pissed me off.
I adored Shea Ernshaw's The Wicked Deep and liked Winterwood but this was such a miss imo. Still looking forward to what she does next but oof, hope she goes back to do more like The Wicked Deep and less this.
Two stars because her prose is nice as always.

I am honestly really shocked at how much I enjoyed this. I am not usually a sci-fi fan (and yes I am categorizing this as a sci-fi) but this was a 5 star read that really took me by surprise. I thought the pacing in the beginning was a little slow but the entire premise is so fascinating and I just knew I had to keep reading so I could learn what happens. I do wish that the ending was a little more closed out, but I think this leaves the author with a possibility of a novella or a companion novel that could pick up where we left off. I think some of the wording was a bit repetitive but when you get to the end you really understand why some of the stuff was said over and over. I really feel for the main character because its like she has to put the responsibility over everything and she isn't really given anytime to grieve.
Graphic: Death, Blood, Grief, Death of parent
Minor: Kidnapping, Murder
Idk what i feel about this one to be honest, the romance part just annoyed me so bad, i feel like the romance part is more like insta love (i dislike this trope btw), something cliche like "yeah you made for each other ofc you all gonna fall in love, its a destiny" lmao i hate it here. This book writting style is more like show dont tell so the readers dont know wtf is happening until the mc speak, you need read like 97% of the book to understand what going on and what's really happening.

I get it girl, tenés muchos secretos que te dijo tu mamá, ya lo chachamos.
