At some point I will make it back to this but this is a brutal listening experience, I dont know whats happening but I would like to know whats happening. Kind of an interesting book but not enough for me to finish it right now.

Not what I was expecting at all. Not fully in love with the structure/tone but definitely curious to see where he takes this. The book feels like it’s setting up for the rest of the series and is mainly for world building.

This is certainly a zippy read; I was looking for something light, and it hit the spot for sure. The whole conceit is sort of odd: At the beginning of the book, it is announced that a character has successfully predicted the future for thousands of years, and the rest of the book is just a series of confirmations that all of his predictions are 100% correct. It's certainly an unconventional approach to plotting, and it's somewhat surprising how gripping the book is given that approach.
I think every serious genre fan wants deep in their hearts for their favourite works to be recognized as literature, not just genre fiction. Well, this is not that. Still very happy I read it, and will read the next one for sure!
Oh, and the names are ridiculous.

structure - 3/5. 5 part dichotomy is a bit disjointed
depth - 2/5. direct consequence of structure, don't get much development of characters. the ideas (psychohistory, trade/religion being used as means of control) were interesting though.
prose - 3/5. good, nothing exceptional
overall round up to 3/5

Very interesting SF book. It sets a future into motion then builds and builds. There isn't much in terms of fantasy but the idea of scale and scope of our future and everything being interconnected while bringing war, economy, religion, and commerce altogether under science tells a great story
