Alex and Ren have grown up exploring the exhibitions of the museum their parents work in, but their parents are being super secretive about the newest exhibition and they've never been secretive before. Now they're facing death, walking mummies and so much more, and they can only trust in their friendship to get them through.

I've been bullied into reading this by another reader and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I would have been all over this series in late elementary/junior high time and as an adult, enjoyed it too. I will be snagging the rest of the series so as to appease my fellow reader and find out how this ends.

3 STARS!!!

I'm going to be honest, though this was fun and had a lot of action I kept falling asleep during it and I know it had a lot to do with me being sick but even now as I'm better I still knocked out a few times while reading this. I was really hoping I'd love the heck out of it, but it was a good read, nothing spectacular or amazing. Would I recommend it? yeah, for something short and quick.

I'm not sure I'll be reading the rest of the series, but if they have them at my library I'll give the second one a go sometime soon. There won't be a Book Thoughts video on this, but I will talk about it more in my wrap up at the end of the month. Happy Reading! :)

This was a fun book. Similar style to that of 39 Clues. I enjoyed it.

This book had hints of the Mummy but for the younger generation. I know my nephews will have a good time reading this book. Alex and Ren are relatable characters. Even for a girl Ren is cool. I point this out because I myself had no issues with her but boys being boys who are still at the stage of girls are gross, will like her too. They will not find this a girl book but a cool book about Ancient Egypt, fighting the undead, good action, and a fast read. Another thing that I liked about this book is that the author did not use a lot of huge words that are not easy to pronounce or ones that I would have to look up in a dictionary This is important when writing for this age group that you don't talk down to the readers but you also make it in easy and understandable language. There are five books in this series total. This one starts out the series nicely and the next one is sure to delight and have tons more action. Also, you can go online at www.scholastic.com/tombquest and play a game that goes along with this series but building your our tomb and traps.

This looked interesting cause I love learning about Egyptian mythology- but being a kids book I definitely found it creepier then expected.
The characters won out in the end.

How cool would it be to have superpowers? And man ! was hoping they would find his mom !

Sounds like they will definitely have their hands full with all the bad guys getting out

Book #115 Read in 2014
Tombquest: Book of the Dead (YA)

This is the first book in a new YA series. Besides the book, there is a companion game that I can see kids getting into. In the book, Alex is a sickly youngster. When he takes a turn for the worse, his mother, who is a Keeper, uses the book of the dead to bring Alex back to life. But this also brings other things back to life that probably should have remained dead. Alex's mother is kidnapped so Alex, along with Ren (his best friend) try to find his mother and figure out a way to stop more dead things from coming back to life.

This was a good, quick read. Reluctant readers would enjoy this fast-paced book. Alex and Ren are intelligent and brave characters who are interesting to read about; this book also has elements of history and paranormal to it. I will read more of this series. I received an ARC of this book from the Amazon Vine program in exchange for a honest review.

Not a very well written book, parts of sentences would not quite match what was going on, and I had a hard time with some of the settings not being described enough to have a mental picture. I was also slightly underwhelmed with parts of the book that were a little bit too cliche. A person who looks evil but isn't, one of the people getting hurt near the end, just little things that have been done to death and been done better. This is a good story, just needed some polishing. It is a good introduction into the Egyptian theme. Basic gods, stories, and motifs are brought up in a way that would really lend to any classroom lessons. I know that Riordan opened the door for Egypt, but this book is a better stepping stone.
