Liz and Tom both work in STEM, when a mishap with a Bunsen burner occurs within is building. He ends up sharing a desk with Liz in his best friend’s lab. The two of them have a little bit of history, top that off with their parents getting married and Liz being forced out of her flat. Her only option is to move into the very large townhouse with Tom. But its only temporary.
This is an adorable enemies-to-lovers story. Firstly, I want to point out that I am not one who likes the miscommunication trope, but I still loved this book. I was a little put off at the start where the love interests were just really being introduced and bam, all of a sudden, their parents are getting married. It took me another chapter or two to really settle into the idea. Overall, the book was adorable, I loved the side characters as well and am quite invested that I will read anything to do with them.

This story reminded me of The Love Hypothesis, just that it is a similar setting.

This story follows Elizabeth Mclean and Thomas, or Tom, Henderson who both work in Molecular Genetics and meet at a party and you can tell there is definitely attraction there. However, the next day, instead of asking her out, Tom is told he will be her PHD assessor. Now he has to keep it professional between the two of them, and how does he decide to do that? By being a jerk to make sure they don't cross any lines. Of course, Liz just thinks she read him wrong at the party and thinks he is actually a jerk. Move forward four years later, they meet again, and there is clearly still attraction there, but they meet their parents at a restaurant, not realizing, his mom and her dad have been seeing each other and are now engaged and only just told their kids. Now, they are all living together temporarily, and this is when Tom decides he is going to somehow show Liz that he actually has loved her ever since they met and try to make them work, while Liz has opposite ideas of revenge.

This was a fun read for me. I think I really needed a romcom since I had lately been reading some darker fantasies and I really needed something to break that up. This was definitely funny! Their banter is hilarious, and you can totally tell they are into each other, and yet are so immature about it lol.

Tom reminded me of Warner from the Shatter Me series because he is vain and really cares about the way he looks and carries himself as well as how is home looks. He sounds amazing! I mean I love a man that knows how to dress, and cook! And Liz I liked overall, I will say I cannot stand petty revenge schemes, I think they are pointless and makes you an immature and petulant child. That being said, I still really did like her, and they worked so well together as a team, and you could really feel the chemistry coming off the pages between the two of them despite being rather immature for their ages.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book! It's a feel good romcom with steamy romance. I just wasn't a fan of the petty revenge scheme. Other than that, it was great and I would recommend it!

I received an advance review copy for free(thank you to BookSirens and the author), and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Why is this book not everywhere?
I absolutely devoured this story. Tom and Liz's story is thrilling and intriguing and filled with humour. The secondary characters also contributed to the plot and I loved them all. I hope this story gets the amount of attention it deserves.

Spicier and cheesier than I expected. Tom is such a mess. I simply don’t get why Liz gave him a third chance.

But ok wtv, a mid for romcom acceptable but not recommending it to anyone OH AND I finished this book in a day, i feel so great reading thoughts of men written by women hehehehehehehehe

Quick Summary: A hot for the teacher romance

My Review: The Unbalanced Equation by H.L. Macfarlane was an older man-younger woman romance. It was also a teacher-student scenario with loads of misunderstandings and oodles of twists. The characters were highly accomplished, totally imperfect, and really humorous. The conflict was minimal, and the tension was well written.

About the Story: When Ph.D student, Liz, meets a super gorgeous professor, Tom, at a gathering, the two hit it off. Their mutual attraction and shared interest all but guaranteed a match…or should I say a memorable hookup. Unfortunately, luck was not on their side, and they were unable to explore the possibilities.

Fast forward… After four years of being in close, torturous proximity, they reconnect in such a mind boggling way that all bets are off. Will they finally throw caution to the wind and go for the goal?

Special Mention: The bonus feature in this book dealt with the parents of Liz and Tom. I loved how they both found happiness after loss.

My Final Say: This book was a whole lot more than I was expecting. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Readers who enjoy second chance love stories, as well as loss to love stories will appreciate this double romance.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Unbalanced Equation was pretty easy to devour. The only problem for me was finally finding the time to sit down and write the actual review. Did I have to skim through it for a little bit just to get the creative juices flowing? Yes, yes, I did, and I have zero regrets about it.

In this, you will meet Tom and Liz. At first glance, I guess you could say that they were enemies. It truly doesn't help that he ignored her email years ago or that she held a teeny tiny grudge for it either. So, when they finally cross paths, no one knew what to expect. Well, other than the mimosas that is.

Sure, they were attracted to one another but it kind of felt like right person wrong time. All the time. They just clicked and had this vibe that I couldn't help but get along with either. Yet, they would mess up by saying or doing something wrong. It completely frustrated me, but it also made them a bit more realistic.

In the wise words of Hannah Montana, nobody's perfect.

It didn't take long for sparks to finally fly between these two. Then the drama came right around the corner and smacked me. Some of it was okay and interesting, but the snark, sarcasm and banter are what I came here for. It didn't disappoint me one bit and I'm so happy with what I read.

In the end, I really enjoyed these two doing a slow awkward dance around one another. I also hope that she does go with Jerry for the kitten's name.

This book felt so familiar to me, it's a book with an academia setting, world i am familiar with things that at first didn't like about her, like she being not like the other girls, it honestly was so normal, more than people think, specially in that context dominated by men, so we have to do a lot to fit in.

The love story was nice and the characters too, the way the author wrote it is so accurate for the context. really nice.

Recommend it if you like STEM situated books.
