One of my favourite books and the one that I carry with me at all times. It's a superb reminder of the true value of the martial arts and how it can be applied outside the dojang. Excellent!

This is one of my favorite books that I've held onto the longest. I've returned to it for many years since it is easy to read/absorb the lessons and has practical examples of what zen is and how it is applied. I know not everyone will connect as strongly with this book, but there are definitely some good lessons about life in here that I try to remember.

I love that this book had practical examples and lessons that any person, regardless if they study martial arts, can take away and apply to every day life. This book inspires individuals to accept themselves as well as to work towards personal goals to better themselves. I highly recommend to everyone!

Hmm, yeah - there's a lot of stuff in this book that's great and a lot that's quite coo coo crazy.
The first third (maybe half) has a lot of interesting ways of zen thought that are actually helpful, but the last half veers into crazy talk with stories of people that had surgery with no anesthetic by using zen meditation and people who healed their bones quicker by sheer zen will. Poppycock. Science says otherwise...
It's a quick read and is divided up into super short bite-sized chunks. Worth a read despite the nonsense towards the end.

I think this might have been four stars if I hadn't listened on audio. The narrator bordered on sounding smug. Combine this with the fact that the author references his lessons with Bruce Lee a lot and it seemed like every other sentence was a smug "this one time when I was with Bruce Lee", which became unbearable by the end. I get referencing your teachers, it shows your lineage and that you're not just pulling things out of thin air. It just happened a lot. That aside there's some really great stuff in here about Zen and the martial arts and well worth reading. Maybe just skip the audio.

This is a review after reading it twice. I believe this is a useful book with advice that any martial artist can walk away from with some new perspectives or wisdom to apply to their own training. There are several moments where the author interacts with Bruce Lee, so if you're a fan of Bruce and his philosophy then this is probably something worth looking at.
