I am a hater at this point & I still have one more book to read. If you don't absolutely despise Michael by the end of the first few chapters, I am judging you. I find myself rooting for Lasher because he's a weird baby man punting incest bourgeois uteruses into the sun in hopes of furthering soft spot babyman kind & their unquenchable mommy milk fetish & I can never take anything seriously again. The noise I made when I read the chapter of newborn Emaleth banging an old dude for milk was so shrill it likely couldn't be detected by human ears. The only sympathetic character in this book emerges from a backstory fraught with casual racism & xenophobia all to immediately start a relationship with a 13 year old girl as a man in his thirties. Put me in the ground. I am tired.

It was a long time since I read the same book in both languages, and although it was confusing because of the author's style (much, much heavier than in the first book in the series,) it is quite entertaining and enjoyable.
The mythology that Anne Rice creates for this saga is raw, bloodthirsty, bordering on the sickly and with much originality in between. It is fairly difficult to follow the thread of everything that happens, so many events at the same time or at different moments of the narrative, hindering enjoyment; however, in the later chapters, this changes for the better.

I was really hoping this series would improve along the way. Instead we get more pointless characters who add nothing to the story and are wholly problematic. Between the racism, rape, statutory rape, birthing horrors, and all the other disgusting things that happen in this book I feel like it was just written for shock value.
Julian's story was mildly interesting at times but it yet again just made other characters that previously had a good sense to them, now became dull and without any wit. Lasher's tale was utterly boring and didn't need to be nearly as long as it was. And the climax makes absolutely no sense considering the climax of the previous book (trying not to include spoilers). Even Lasher himself is completely contradicted in the end.
I left The Witching Hour being interested in a few of the side characters and hoping the main characters would pull themselves together and be the characters they claimed to be. However, this book proved they really don't.
At this point I'm just finishing the series so I can move on in The Vampire Chronicles...

Absolutely riveting and nearly impossible to put down. Another perfect Anne Rice novel.
