A recent Caldecott Honor and a really good one. This reads like some of our family favorites like [b:Owl Moon|228696|Owl Moon|Jane Yolen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1390829388l/228696._SX50_.jpg|3070357] and [b:Birdsong Lullaby: Story and Pictures|701277|Birdsong Lullaby Story and Pictures|Diane Stanley|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1413593518l/701277._SX50_.jpg|687577] and [b:The Big Big Sea|1098025|The Big Big Sea|Martin Waddell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1387711171l/1098025._SX50_.jpg|207204]. It is told from the child's perspective going through her day and hanging out with her mom. And it has quietly good art. What is is missing is actually BEING one of our family favorites but it is hard to hold that against it. This is definitely one worth reading and recommending especially with the expectation of re-reading.

Me & Mama is the story of a rainy day a little girl spends with her mama. The language is rich and poetic, and it is the most beautifully illustrated picture book I've ever had the pleasure of placing my eyes upon. Wonderful for themes of rainy days, daily activities, mothers and daughters, and comparison.

Suitable for ages 4 to 8.

Some of the most gorgeous illustrations I’ve ever seen. I loved the comparisons between “mama’s things” and “my things”. Absolutely stunning.

The illustrations alone by Ms. Cabrera make this book worth having on display - and yes, it needs to be front and center so readers can take in the two-page spreads of a little girl and her mama spending a rainy day together. Told from the little girl's perspective, readers spend the day with them as the rest of her family sleep. The two of them will take Max the dog out for a walk in the rain, but before they can do this, they need to get ready. Here is where we see the little girl share the similarities and differences between herself and her mama. Right from the endpapers depicting big and little objects, you get the sense that there is a special bond behind the pairing, and the story is about to unfold. A beautiful celebration of mothers and daughters expressing the love between them during an ordinary rainy day reminding us, any day can create memories that will last a lifetime.

The illustrations are gorgeous! The representation is beautiful!! This is a quiet, lyrical book.
The story has a choppy, stream-of-consciousness feel that was a bit jarring to the rhythm at times, leaving me feeling the need to reread and see if I missed something, but I didn't - there were just some big jumps that seemed disconnected from the previous thought.

This was a cute story, but I felt like it had awkward jumps at times. I wished it had flowed a bit better. This is a cute story about a girl who looks up to her mom and them spending the day together.

I think book is intended to be read by grade: K-2nd because the words in it aren't too complicated, no page has too many words, and it's main character is younger. Readers who would enjoy this book include: those who like stories about mom's and daughters, those who like stories about rainy days, and those who like poetry.
