Not sure what the hype is with CC. ๐
Firstly this book should've been edited SO HARD, it's not even funny. The way I was confused for the first 20% is just unacceptable. I also felt like nothing happened before page 550, which is insane, because the entire book was like 770? pages or something.
A lot of things didn't make sense to me, like e.g. Hunt couldn't fly and plunged himself to "death" but 15 minutes later he was okay and was flying Bryce home. ๐ Idk, make it make sense. There were so many things like that.
Murder mystery wasn't murder mystery-ing. ๐I was bored, honestly. I think I realized half-way through the book that it was supposed to be mystery x fantasy genre wise. The conclusion imho was a little pathetic... like she almost NEEDED to wrap it up quickly to make room for the actual action she wanted to have after the murder mystery. The actual action was great honestly, not sure why she didn't incorporate it before page 550. ๐คท
The vacuum scene was great. 10/10 best scenes of the book. ๐๐

Just finished this crazy ass long book. Iโm still contemplating whether or not to give it 4 stars. I really feel it sits less than that, but here are my thoughts.
The first 200-300 pages were slow as molasses. It drove me nuts, but I could feel it picking up momentum, so I stuck with it. I enjoyed it for the rest of the book.
I honestly didnโt see the ending coming at all. I knew something was going to happen, but without giving away any spoilers, who was behind all of the mayhem did surprise me.
So what saved this book for me was the last 400 pages.
Overall I thought it was too long and had too many tangents explaining shit. I get that world building is critical in a book of this nature, but this was about 200 pages too long. I think the story could have been much more punchy, and had less boring parts if it was condensed down.
But other than that I enjoyed it and will continue on the series because you just know that ending was far too easy for Bryce and Hunt.

Out of all SJM's books, this one is my favorite. It's definitely different - but SJM is the queen of writing something new, something that no one else thought of.
I do reccomend it, but don't be discouraged by all the weird names and the world, the world building is excellent and becomes more clear as the story progresses, and the names and weird words doesn't matter that much.
