2.5 stars - This was one of the most disappointing finale's I've ever read.
For someone who just binged the first 2 books in this series, I still struggled to become invested in this book which is quite telling; it took over a week to read only 100 pages. Once I sat down and forced myself to read I was able to get through the last 370 pages in a single day (with the help of an audiobook). The author really does have an addicting writing style - it's just so simple and easy to consume.
This book was no different than the others in the series and comes with a long list of trigger warnings. I truly despise how Hodkin carelessly & constantly mentions suicidal tendencies/attempts all the while romanticizing mental illness. She also thought it was a good idea to add another sexual assault in there too and then refuses to discuss the aftermath it can have on the victim. It's as-if the author wanted to continuously go for shock factor but in actuality it just reads as insensitive.
Even though this series is "paranormal", the plot in this third installment was extremely unrealistic which constantly pulled me out of the story. The book ended with far too many unsatisfying loose ends and nothing was thoroughly explained. Any explanations we did receive were beyond confusing.
Overall I'm happy to be done with this series, wouldn't recommend it, and never intend on picking up the companion books.

I was a fool to let him go, and I was many things- a liar, a criminal, a murderer -but I was not a fool.
I felt kind of bad about it, honestly. It wasn't a clean cut. Too much hesitation; I could barely watch as I did it But I did make sure he was dead before I took his eye. That was something?
I loved Mara's don't fuck with me attitude in this book. How she was absolutely ruthless in protecting the people she cared about.
Do not find peace. Find passion. Find something you want to die for more than something you want to live for.
I love Mara and Noah together, they are absolutely fucking adorable.
Daniel, Jaime and Stella were also really great.
As much as it pains me- minus one star because I felt like there were a lot of loose ends and there wasn't enough Noah. There should have been more Noah scenes between Maras, like even really short chapters from Noah's POV would have made this book better. Some of the chapters before the ending could have been even more emotional.

honestly, i was confused the whole time and the ending didn’t sit well with me lol. It was so unpleasant.
“As I was saying. He could never use you. You own him. You should’ve seen the way he was looking at you while you were out.”
I smiled a little. “How?”
“Like you’re the ocean and he’s desperate to drown.”
A MASTERPIECE ! INTENSE, DEEP AND DARK
So long time a saga did not interfere so much in my heart and soul like this one

It has been a unique journey into a world that Michelle Hodgkin has created, where at times I have completely forgotten the fact that it is actually in the real world as every day.
But the story of Mara Dyer grabs you completely and you come to understand that there is much more in this world we call "normal"that we can not see, you forget it and you completely get into the stories where everything is beyond FANTASTIC!.
Ok let's start with this book in which I found it of the best I have read is that this series does not stop to put on better and better.
The Retribution of Mara Dyer
Undoubtedly one of the strongest early ...
This time we find a different Mara and you soon realize that she is changed , shows a much darker and calculator image. I come to think that in fact if it was something crazy, kept me chills!.
“The villain is the hero of her own story.”
Spoiler
The things she saw people in the mirrors and talk with itself can not be normal lolI love her so much that has not changed I have fond a lot with Mara for all the things she had to spend through I think it's fair and understandable that beech changed his personality and is darker and fighter, which undoubtedly also due to power and things that have been revealed in the previous book

In fact according to myself mara has been protagonist in one of the strongest scenes of the book I have shocking
Spoiler
as it was attempted rape by Ernst. I went crazy with that scene My God. Mara really went for it. A shock scene with the scene of the self-stabbing... speechless about that.
Noah had me with my heart in my throat for nerves throughout the book and if you read it you know why!
Spoiler
I think was really dead :(And then it was, then wasn't
OMG I can't with myself on that scene
“Do not find peace. Find passion.”
Flashbacks have been great the story was taking shape thanks to them! . At begining is a little confusing but then you're tying nails and is much easier to understand.
And then there is the character of the father of Noah that in fact think it was time for his grand entrance, a character hidden so long, a very cold person.
Spoiler
I liked its appearance but I think it was perhaps predictable that has something to do is that it was always named as the worst man in the world and never appeared ... it was suspicious to me.And that END !! for the love of God
“This is a love story. Twisted and messy. Flawed and screwed up. But it's ours. It's us. I don't know how our story will end. but I know it will start. I pick up my pen and begin to write:
My name is not Mara Dyer, but my lawyer told me I had to choose something.”
Really do not want it to end I think they could easily make 4 more books is a story without waste, but I'm already dreaming lol.

The thing is that it was a beautiful end of truth is already I was waiting something catastrophic and I was crying profusely but ... if yes I was crying but it was for happiness.... is a story that has everything but in terms of impossible love and mystery takes gold
un 3.8
Muchas partes fueron bastaaaante aburridas y se me hicieron innecesarias, creo que al final explicaron una gran parte de tipo lo que son y eso pero se dejó también mucho de lado. Extrañe a Noah.

Okay so maybe I just wasn’t focusing on what I was reading, but this whole series ended up confusing me. Like wait what, don’t be throwing Jungian archetypes at me out of nowhere along with a genetic mutation. That makes no sense to me. I get that genetic mutation = superpowers, but I have a really hard time getting out of my social work/psychology background & training brain as soon as psych theories like Jung are brought into the mix.
This whole book was also annoying. It was Mara does this, Mara does that, Mara whines, Mara is unstable, Mara misses Noah, Mara wants to have sex with Noah, Mara has nightmares, Mara kills people (and enjoys it), Mara wonders why people think she’s unstable, Mara scares her friends, Mara whines about being unstable...
The pregnancy “scare” was random and weird and the following scene of her cutting those... whatever they were?? Out of her abdomen?? Like wait what? That was also never really explained except as a way to keep Mara from “manifesting.” Which was also never fully explained along with the jumbo of genetic mutation and genetic memories and archetypes.
It honestly felt like Hodkin got to a point with the superhero notion and then wanted to turn it into something more “scientifically based” but was unable to do so successfully. At least for someone who (as aforementioned) is a social worker with a psych background AND who has a biochemist for a father and an ecologist for a sister (so I am also more familiar with genetics & related topics than the average joe).
The segments with Mara’s grandmother (??) were also weird and took far too long to explain. Idk maybe this all comes down to me not concentrating enough, that’s entirely possible, but I don’t think so. Not quite anyway, not ALL of it. This book just felt like a very messy conclusion that lacked the zing of the first two books. It also took me weeks to finish it, so that could also be why it didn’t feel anywhere near as cohesive (or intriguing) as the other books did.
