WOW! Dani Pettrey sure packs a big punch into this short novella! Returning to the CGIS team in Wilmington, NC was very enjoyable for me as I have loved this series. Emmy and Logan have been destined to be together and despite the heartbreaking circumstances that lead them to Arizona to hunt for Logan's grandfather's murderer, I did love their forced-proximity and witnessing them investigate together as a team. There was plenty of excitement, drama and suspense in this new release that kept me on the edge of my seat and turning the pages as quickly as possible.

The unique way Logan's grandfather communicated with him through left-behind codes and ciphers added an extra layer of intrigue and also demonstrated a beautiful familial bond. While the setting for this story was different than the others in the series, it was no less exciting. In fact, I believe it made Logan's character come to life and shone a fantastic, personal light on a formerly secretive character. Emmy is a sweet and endearing heroine who supports Logan through a very hard time in his life and I loved her all the more because of it.

Overall, this was a riveting, quick read that perfectly tied up a fantastic series and hopefully will be the segue into a new series! If you enjoy crime-heavy, suspense stories with subtle faith-based elements and plenty of romance, don't miss this novella!

Fast-paced and impossible to put down, this story pulled me right in and didn't let go until the very last word. I loved the Coastal Guardians series and am so happy that Logan and Emmy got their own story with this standalone novella. I was eager to spend more time with them and loved learning more about them and their pasts.

This case was personal. Logan and Emmy head to New Mexico to find the person who murdered his grandpa. My heart absolutely broke for Logan. I was rooting so hard for him to bring swift justice to the criminal.

Despite being a novella, it never felt too short or lacking. While the full-length books had multiple mysteries going on at the same time, this one just focused on Logan and Emmy, which I really appreciated. I highly recommend this to fans of romantic suspense. I loved it and am eager for Dani Pettrey's next series.

Wow! Buckle up because this novella will take you on a rollercoaster of a ride with swoon worthy romance, heart palpitating action, mystery, and a redemption story that’ll tug on your heartstrings. I loved Logan and Emmy and soon became invested in their burgeoning romance. The mystery was complex and full of twists and turns. Also loved the New Mexico setting.

Logan Perry is a special agent with the Coast Guard Investigative Service. He’s been in love with Emmy for awhile but doubts he’s worthy of her, especially with his past. When he learns that his grandfather was found murdered in the small New Mexico town he grew up in, he immediately makes plans to leave and Emmy jumps at the chance to go with him.

As they investigate his grandfather’s murder, they learn that a young woman who he’d taken in is missing along with several meaningful items. Was she responsible for his death or is she part of a bigger conspiracy? Emmy has feelings for Logan but worries about sharing them when he’s dealing with his grief. She also senses he’s holding something back. Will they let down their guards or remain only colleagues?

I can’t believe this is the first book I’ve read by Dani Pettrey! It was so well written that despite only being 200 pages, it felt more like a full length novel. Even though I hadn’t read the previous books in the series, I was easily drawn in to the story.

Emmy and Logan’s romance was so good! They work extremely well together. Logan just needed that little push to reveal his feelings and holy cow, he doesn’t hold back. I loved the way he opened up to Emmy about his troubled childhood and my heart ached for what he went through.

The mystery kept me guessing, with suspense filled action that kept me on the edge of my seat. It’s a fast-paced, heartfelt, clean romantic suspense with a touch of faith that made me want to go back and read the entire series. Highly recommend to romantic suspense fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

As usual, I loved Dani’s work, though I do wish it had been longer so that Logan and Emmy could have had more time to develop their relationship (but I guess you only have so much room in a novella!)

Thank you Dani for sending me an ARC of The Shifting Current!

The Shifting Current is the 4th installment in the Coastal Guardian series. It is a novella that takes place after the third book. While I think it could be read okay as a standalone, you'll definitely get more backstory by reading the series in order.

I love a good novella, but I also always worry that there is going to be something missing in the story due to its shorter length. I feel like this is especially a concern with suspense... and yet that was not at all the case with this novella. It was a quick read, yes... but it didn't feel rushed or incomplete. I do wonder if that might be because the relationship between Logan and Emmy was already a bit familiar from the previous books. Either way, I couldn't get enough of this story! From start to finish, I was all in wondering what was going to happen next. It was different from the rest of the series as it didn't have a waterfront setting, but was a great addition and one that I thoroughly enjoyed!

If you're looking for a quick, exciting suspense read, this is one not to be missed!
