This was very useful for something I mostly couldn't relate to at all. My biggest takeaway was something they didn't say outright. They talked about how an important way to process emotions is to express them to someone else. This of course made me feel like a terrible person for not always letting everyone process their emotions with me as the carbon filter, but later on they mentioned how emotion processing happens within your "bubble of love", and also that people who you don't like or who you don't trust don't belong in that bubble. And, that makes sense. It's not my reponsibility to act as a feels-Brita for anyone who tries. Good stuff.

I also really liked the whole "complete the stress cycle" thing. It already improved my life a little bit within a week with barely any effort. No idea what that madwoman thing is though. This book was different from the substantial amount of reading I've done in this area already, and the different stuff is stuff I think everyone should know, so; definitely recommend this one!

Less about burnout and more about author describing feminist issues.

A terrific read for anyone struggling through a stressful life, particularly women. Learn about Human Giver Syndrome, and how we’re programmed to take care of others at the expense of our own well-being. Learn about the Bikini Industrial Complex, which tells us we’re not enough if we’re not skinny. Learn how to face your emotions and get them to “the end of the tunnel,” so they don’t get stuck in your body and cause pain. Be reminded why rest is essential and not the least bit selfish. Well written with plenty of examples told through composite characters.

This book will be ok if it’s the first time you’ve ever turned your mind to the subject.

It’s not my favorite type of format (too many “stories” and illustrations of concepts starts to feel like fluff to me) but I loved many of the points made and ways they encourage self-compassion, gratitude, self-care, and practical ways to reduce stress in our bodies.
