I enjoyed this first book in the series quite a lot. Both the main characters and their initial relationship was very interesting. I will say I did enjoy their relationship a lot less once they got together. As their relationship became very cookie cutter and as such a lot less interesting to me at least. Also, I don’t really think this story has the depth that a lot of people described it having. It was more of a character driven book with a heavy romance plot and a light literary war story running in the background than anything else I have seen it described as. Still despite having the wrong expectations going into the book. I enjoyed it and am I excited to read the next book.

I didnt know this had a sequel, and im glad I didn't because tbh I wouldn't have read it. But im glad I did - i really enjoyed it.

I did feel that it could have done better to flesh out a lot of the concepts. It felt like id only got a half way experience for the mythology, the romance, the story going on with her brother. I'm hoping Ruthless Vows fills out some more of the world because I was left wanting to a degree that surprised me for a book of this length.

I enjoyed the characters even if they werent fully fleshed out. I felt such sadness for Iris and relished all of the little moments of joy. I especially enjoyed the friends she made in her new life.

Fingers crossed we get a little more in book #2!

My gosh was this an amazing storyline & plot! Omg and the cliffhanger at the end!!! Just wow my feelings were everywhere! My hurt ached for Iris and Roman! I loved how they were rivales at work for the same position but then he falls hard for her while she thought she was mailing letters to her brother.
Mailing letter feels so romantic and old fashioned that it reminded me of one bf I did that with and just loved the feeling of every day having a new response.
This whole storyline was just amazing and the world building has my heart aching the whole way until she finds her brother. The twist at end had me almost crying & on a chokehold.
I definitely need a physical copy to have as a trophy! 📚📖

so glad i finally got round to reading this after it had been sat on my tbr for years!
wonderfully magical - a mix of ww2 style historical fiction with magic and romance. Made for an atmosphere perfect for the autumn which i never knew i needed, but now i’ll definitely be in the look out for more books with similar vibes!
The characters were addictive - i felt so much sorrow for Iris for what she went through at such a young and got so attached to her and Roman’s story. Seeing both of their development through the story was a pleasure and I cannot wait to see what happens in book 2 after that ending!
I listened to a good chunk of this on audiobook and I would really recommend that too! the two voice actors for the dual POVs were such a treat. The writing was also amazing, given the entire book was about two authors this makes sense haha. Definitely recommend!
