I had fun reading/listening to this one. It reminded me of a fun, cheesy horror flick. Not super realistic but very enjoyable for a light read. Lots of blood and sort of a [b:Pet Sematary|33124137|Pet Sematary|Stephen King|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1480069533s/33124137.jpg|150017] vibe, except with kids.

I picked this one up from NetGalley quite a long time ago. There's much longer review at C-Spot Reviews (http://reviews.c-spot.net/archives/5764) if you're interested but this sums it up.

i refuse to be a parent so yall can say i will never understand all you want, but i know damn well i would never go to these extremes to save my already-decomposing child. i'd choose the grieving process every time, thank you very much.

i was so bored after people realized what was going on. everyone was irrational and annoying and i couldn't stand stupid doug saying "just peachy" every two pages.

Yikes. That's the first word that comes to my mind when I think of this book. Parts were gross, and honestly I felt a tiny bit of sympathy for the parents of these kids, but also not. These parents were unhinged in the end. It was a book with a different kind of preface I haven't experienced before, and for that - big points! I love the creativity of the story plot. First audiobook too... think I may stick to physical books with this sort of subject matter lol

This is probably a lot harder to read for people who have kids. Definitely an interesting take on vampirism, there’s only one other book i’ve read that had a similar concept of how it happens. It got to a point where I found a lot of the adults difficult to sympathize with, their reasoning for their actions became very delusional.

So in 2014, [b:Blood Kin|18143940|Blood Kin|Steve Rasnic Tem|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1382971978l/18143940._SY75_.jpg|25491262] by Steve Rasnic Tem won the Stoker Award. Now I have not read it yet, but it must be the greatest book ever written to beat out this truly horrific story of how far desperate parents will go to keep their children alive.

This is the creepiest and most unique vampire story I have ever read and I can not express how much I am recommending this to anyone who reads this review. If you are a parent it is going to stretch your morals to the breaking point, and maybe just a little past what you are comfortable with.
