This probably would have been even better if I had reread Serpent and Dove beforehand, but even so it was fantastic! Good mystery, great character development, really enjoyed it.
Okay I’m writing this at almost three am and have to get up in three hours so that should tell you my thoughts on this book.
Vibes?? Immaculate. Celie was amazing - and such a unique heroine I’m obsessed.
There was some odd plot stuff - something happens and the resolution is kinda in the air of that makes sense but I can’t explain more without spoilers - but this plot stuff was not enough to color my reading of the book!
Very much enjoyed & I need the second now immediately.

This book was so close to five stars. It was just so dense and so long for really no reason. Also I could not get over the fact that Celie was straight up just DUMB. Like genuinely this girl could not put two and two together to make four. She had two brain cells and they were playing hide and seek. I did enjoy it though despite it being an absolute brick (for a YA book). I will continue on in the series. I’ve seen people saying that the second one will have spice and I hope to God it doesn’t because again, this book is YA. YA books should not have spice in them. I will not be taking questions on that. If you disagree, you’re weird.

This book was so good ! I was not a fan of Célie in the Serpent & Dove trilogy but this book was a great redemption for her. And the angst between her and Michal... omg I loved it
This infuriated me but I also still really enjoyed reading it, so 4 stars even though Celie was kind of a dingus like half the time

First things first. Have you read the Serpent & Dove series? If not, turn around and do that before you read this book. You don’t belong here yet. Trust me.
Ok so the review. I couldn’t STAND Célie for all 3 books of S&D and a good 400 pages of this book. The book itself could have been about 100 pages shorter. The author is a bit wordy and there’s a lot of kind of pointless conversation. This was going to be a solid 3 star read for me until I read the last 20 pages which pushed it to a 4 for me.
I was also sort of disappointed in the relationship development between Célie and the main love interest. It just fell flat for me. Maybe I’ve been reading too much romance lately. It was redeemed a little bit at the end (which is a huge double cliffhanger btw) when one of the characters finally shows some real emotion and I’m hoping that will be what catapults their relationship.
Célie also finally developed as a character around page 415. I would have liked to have seen that happen a little sooner because to be honest, she’s just kind of an idiot who puts herself into the most ridiculous situations because she wants so badly to be a badass.
I did like the story even though it was very slow to develop. Don’t let my mostly negative review fool you hahaha! I am actually really excited for the next book!
