Stumbled onto this one through a "You should read these five books" list, I think--I had only the vaguest idea of the podcast Kilgariff and Hardstark host, or the "Murderino" group or anything else. However, the essays blew me away--their thoughtful, clear discussion of the conflicting messages women or children or people get, their sharp humor, their honest discussion of the importance of therapy, dealing with issues, etc. These are not rants, these aren't memoirs, but they are funny and somehow illuminating reflections on what it's like to be human, flawed, and healing. I have been recommending this book all over.
This book is like a book of warm, funny stories mixed with wisdom that was written by the cool big sister(s) I never had. What a gift for fans. Thank you, Karen and Georgia!
I’m not a murderino, but these gals are my jam. Smart, blunt, imperfect, funny, feminist. Also wise.

I think I would have liked this book more if I listened to the podcast and knew of the hosts a little bit better. But overall, it was an okay book.
I loved this podcast for years until one day I … didn’t. I can’t put my finger on why, but I thought I might enjoy the (audio)book considering how much I loved Hardstark and Kilgariff’s work in the past. I was wrong. I expected this book to be more (or at least a little bit!) about the cases Hardstark and Kilgariff deep dive into in their podcast, or a book about how the podcast came together, but instead it mostly felt like the two women congratulating themselves and each other and their fanbase...for an entire book. The writing feels like it was done on a whim late at night without much thought or effort. There are more than one “jokes” about how people looking at the book in a store should just BUY IT. ew.

I am simultaneously underwhelmed and in a state of contentment with this book.
The plot went ALL over the place with no clear understanding of where we were going. I love listening to Karen and Georgia but this was kinda a mess plot wise. There were some chapters that I enjoyed but overall it was just an average book.
It got a four star rating because its Karen and Georgia but I don't think I would recommend this book because it honestly felt like a waste of time.
Idk didn't give me what I wanted from the book but it was alright.

I love that they write very similarly to how they speak. It was so interesting to really get to know the authors on a much more intimate level. In the podcast they talk about family a lot but it is so much more personal in the book.
I went into this book completely blind aside for the fact that one of my favorite podcasts (MFM) wrote it. While I wasnt expecting the book that I read, I'm definitely not complaining about it! They had some amazing pieces of advice and were not afraid of being vulnerable about their own hardships. Thank you so much for giving us this book I loved it :)
