I went into this book completely blind aside for the fact that one of my favorite podcasts (MFM) wrote it. While I wasnt expecting the book that I read, I'm definitely not complaining about it! They had some amazing pieces of advice and were not afraid of being vulnerable about their own hardships. Thank you so much for giving us this book I loved it :)

I'm familiar with the MFM podcast in passing but was given this book anyway since I do love me some true crime. I'm also around the same age as the authors so I related A LOT to their stories.
This was hilarious and fun to listen to (do the audiobook!)

LOVED listening to this audiobook, read by the authors (and also Paul Giamatti! Fantastic surprise!)
1) You probably will not be as entranced and entertained if you’re not a fan of the podcast. There are inside jokes and references back…go check out the podcast (if you’re into true crime), and then come back to the book.
2) Very little true crime is discussed, as this is more of a memoir. Hence why it helps to know the authors already before reading this.
3) No, not every life lesson and piece of advice is going to be for you, nor will they all resonate with you. It’s a memoir, disguised as an advice book, the concept of which is pretty tongue-in-cheek, but you can still learn from it and gain respect for their perspective. It’s about the authors and what they have learned over the years.
The biggest point is that Karen and Georgia are (and have always been) incredibly vulnerable, honest and transparent, totally relatable, and completely hilarious.

Honestly, I LOVE this podcast. It’s been something I look forward to listening to every week while on a long drive or while cleaning the house.
This book, however, was pretentious AF. It’s basically just a book where they talk about themselves and continually tell you to go to therapy. I am not against therapy, but to hear them say “find a therapist” multiple times a chapter got old really quickly.
They each told the story of their lives, which neither one had it all that bad, as if it was a sob story and we should pity their experiences.
Karen is usually my favorite on the podcast because she is so funny, but here all I heard was narcissism and arrogance... Also, why did we need a play by play of her latch key life with her sister??? Georgia had a much less arrogant way of telling her story, but I still had a hard time connecting with her.
This book claims to be a definitive guide to “stay sexy and don’t get murdered” but they only touched on that concept briefly. I would have liked (and was expecting) more stories and examples of how to stay safe in a world so cruel. Instead I got ordered to see a therapist and told how they “survived” life. They told you how they went from drugs to riches, not how to survive being a victim of a serial killer. I wanted so much more.
I will be shaking my head at the disappointment of this book for days to come.

I love their podcast so I had no doubts I would love the book as well but it exceeded all my expectations! Some of the personal stories made me shed a tear at work (something I do often while I read at work) but also solidify everything they have always said (fuck politeness, etc). genuinely a great read
