As a huge fan of the podcast, I'm only sad it took me so long to get round to reading this. It has honestly resonated with me on a number of levels and I could easily have read a book with twice the number of essays in it. These ladies are amazing and I would urge everyone to pick up this book.
I enjoyed how much this book focused on mental health. The authors told stories about their life in funny, touching, and teaching ways. I listened to the audiobook and they patch in live performances of the book, and I didn’t like that style. There was a lot of explicit language, so don’t pick up if you don’t want to read that.
From the hit podcast, My Favorite Murder comes the joint memoir by hosts Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark. This memoir is gutsy and vulnerable and left me teary-eyed on several occasions.
On their podcast, Kilgariff and Hardstark are strong advocates for mental health awareness and they don’t shy away from telling stories about their experiences with addiction and depression. This memoir is broken up into different sections and the authors alternate in each chapter. If you listen on audio-book, Kilgariff and Hardstark narrate their work with special appearances from actor Paul Giamatti. If you read the physical book, you will see various photos of the authors throughout their childhood as well as fan art made from listening of the podcast.
All in all, this is one entertaining read! -Jenny L.

Breezy, funny read. You don't need to be a fan of their podcast, My Favorite Murder, to follow this. I've never listened to a single episode, and I still thoroughly enjoyed this book.
One of those times you really want the audiobook. I would have preferred less therapy/self-help and more murder and behind the scenes stories. Hopefully there's another book. But... I really enjoy listening to Karen and Georgia regardless of the subject.
This book was a good read and very funny at times while also being very insightful. While I really enjoyed the book, I thought that those who are unfamiliar with the podcast hosts might be missing the essence of the book as a whole. I feel like I got to really know Karen and Georgia more intimately through their words but I don’t know if someone who just randomly picks this book up would feel the same. That is the biggest critique I have of this book. Although there are plenty of murderinos out there that this issue doesn’t matter in the big picture.
I truly like the “advice” they gave. It made me do a more in-depth reflection on certain aspects of my love in a way that I don’t feel guilty about (which is a feeling I get when I read anything related to self-help which is why I don’t read it hardly at all). At a time in my life that is a monumental time of change as you move in to the next decade of age, it was comforting. The book held the same go get em attitude with a touch of learn from my experiences that the podcast has when Karen and Georgia tell any of their stories.
I highly recommend giving this book a read.
