This is a book where you must listen to the audiobook to get the full effect of Karen and Georgia’s personal storytelling.
I enjoy MFM and their views on the world. If you’re not a fan, you probably won’t get much out of this book.
It was nice to hear about their adolescences and how they reached the current point of fame. They have done a lot of positive education with their podcast, for mental health, for social issues, and for women’s relationships, to name a few.

This is SO not what I was expecting this book to be. And I'm really happy for that! This was so good and I loved learning more about Karen & Georgia, and all the added advice in there. I didn't expect to love it as much as I did, especially since it wasn't all about murder, but I really, really loved it.

I have a love-hate relationship with the MFM podcast (Georgia. Stop cheering on capital punishment, jeez.) but I enjoyed the book more than I thought I would.
I'm am completely biased towards this as I already love Karen and Georgia and the podcast, but this book provides even more of the great personal stories I love to hear alongside the true crime on the podcast.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 “Stay sexy. And don’t get murdered!”
#SSDGM has been a rallying cry for #murderinos around the globe since the very early days of the #MyFavoriteMurder podcast.
But this memoir focuses on the two women behind the mics, Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark. The chapters follow different MFM-isms and how different points in Karen and Georgia’s lives. They discuss everything from seeking therapy to family drama to growing up in the 80s and 90s.
At times this memoir made me laugh out loud, and then a few chapters later I would cry. This book humanizes Karen and Georgia in a way that we’ve briefly listened to during the podcast. It was a truly enjoyable experience to read this book.
You don’t have to be a lover of true crime to enjoy this book! Some of the jokes might be lost on people that don’t listen to the podcast, but I think it’s a book that most people could enjoy.

When I was first told, in the winter of 2017, by my dear friend Etienne about a "podcast" called My Favorite Murder, I was skeptical. Who wants to listen to people talking... for fun? I was totally against the idea of a podcast and curious as to how true crime and comedy could go together (this was before the days of Karen telling us to "Get the fuck out" and thankfully, I didn't). Not only did I fall head over heels with MFM, I fell in love with podcasts as a genre (though no show has quite captured me like MFM has (except maybe the Exactly Right shows Do You Need a Ride and This Podcast Will Kill You). I was excited to see the women who have become friends enter written word, though I admit my admiration of them may have blinded me to SSDGM: The Definitive How-To Guide's purpose.
For as much as I like reading (and writing) across genres, I'm not into self-help. I was expecting more memoir and less self-help and I got the opposite. While Karen and Georgia retain their same candor and voice in print as they do off the cuff, I found myself uninterested in what they were saying. I will absolutely buy and read their next book should they have it, and continue to buy my own shit (of theirs), but this one let me down.
