Listened to the audiobook because what "My Favorite Murder" fan wouldn't?

I highly recommend the audio since Georgia and Karen read it. Plus a few guest voices! Overall, great account for their highs and lows and start as friends. If you love the podcast, read this.

So, this book was not what I expected. I started listening to the podcast relatively recently, so I did not know a lot of the backstory of Karen and Georgia and how the podcast came to be. This book is part memoir, part advice column; it is only tangentially about murder. The sole intended audience is the fans of the podcast, so be aware of that if you are picking this up without having listened to the show.

Still, I enjoyed reading it. Three stars.

This is probably a fantastic, validating read for fans of the podcast. As a "civilian", it is a good book but you're not *quite* in on the story of the authors' success. That said, for the last chapter alone it is worth four stars-- timing is everything and I read this just as this particular news story broke: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/02/nyregion/judge-james-troiano-rape.html?searchResultPosition=1 The authors give one of the most robust rebukes to the victim-blaming that underpins rape culture in the U.S. but they also give a path forward for those who might be genuinely in error. The famous true crime podcasters saw the error of their ways and used their powers for good-- and that is a happy ending in a category they're rarely found.

I have tried to listen to their podcast a couple times, but every time I found myself not making it through long introductions where they talk about things unrelated to the topic of the show. They are clearly interesting people, and I’m willing to give their podcast one more try.

yes

The authors of this are likeable and provide a fun and smart series of writings about their life and careers with some advice and personal anecdotes. I haven't listened to their popular podcast before, which I imagine would provide a lot more context and appreciation, but the book was still fun and could see it connecting with others more.

This is a super cute book even if you, like me, don't listen to the podcast. It will give you hope and make you laugh and also impart some great nuggets of wisdom.

I truly don’t remember the last time I finished a book so quickly, I could nottt put it down. I’ve only been listening to these lovely badass ladies for a short time, but it didn’t take me long to fall in love with absolutely everything they do. This book encapsulates all my favorite parts of the podcast, and I feel so much closer to these two strangers who seem like (ARE) my close personal friends. I’ve always been so grateful for their frank, open, and honest discussions about mental health, addiction, eating disorders, feminism, loss, addressing hard things in your past, etc etc etc (honestly, I could go on for days about how their wonderful podcast is so much more than murder), and this book did not disappoint on any of those fronts.

I laughed, I cried, I learned, and I laughed some more. I really don’t think you can ask for much more than that... out of life, out of an amazing and fun podcast about murder, or out of this beautiful book. SSDGM.

I read the book jacket & wasn’t sure what this was about. I then read the book & still am not sure what this was about. Two 30 year olds wrote an autobiography (why?) & they apparently have a podcast together? Idk. Meh.
