I could not stomach all of the racism, fatphobia, underage inappropriateness, and white savorism that made up this book. Hugely disappointing.

Fell in love with the characters. The south during the depression is so far from my world, it has the feel of historical fiction.

A little love letter to the south. Very outdated though, so sometimes my experience was a bit muddled. Not bad! We need more southern stories with southern characters, I love how most of this reads like someone telling us verbally about their life.

I'm not sure if I loved this book because of the book or because I grew up watching and loving the movie. I wanted to be Idgie when I was little. However, reading the book really opened up my eyes about the movie. Call me naive, but I did not realize that Ruth and Idgie were in a relationship, the movie only subtly alluded towards it. Their relationship is such a beautiful part of the book that I wish it would have been represented in the movie. In the end, regardless of whether I was influenced by the movie or not, I really enjoyed the experience of reading this book.
