Amazing book!! Character development was on point, they all have their own story with history and overcome obstacles, even supporting characters. Makes the book feel more rich and fulfilling to read! I also enjoyed the plot twists and the unique world in general and the end kind of reminded me of Hermione and the time spinner in Harry Potter! So cool.

Initial Thoughts

First of all, I just want to say I’m all about these new covers. I was also on the Street Team for this release and seeing everyone’s posts just made me want to read this book more. I received Bloodleaf last year in one of the first book boxes I ever received and it was also one of the first audiobooks that I tried. I loved the characters and was super excited to find out what would happen to them in this book.

Some Things I Liked

Loose ends tied up. I loved that all of the subtle clues and hints dropped in Bloodleaf and throughout Greythorne came full circle. Every detail is so thoughtfully placed and it was such a pleasure trying to puzzle out the hidden meanings behind the mysteries Aurelia uncovers.
Love triangle is over. I’m so glad the love triangle element is played out. Aurelia and Zan are endgame and I will not have anyone tell me otherwise. I am a fan of Kellen, but he needs to find someone else. Aurelia is spoken for. Anyway, I was glad to see the romance element between Kellen and Aurelia was pretty much nonexistent in this book.
Onal and her sass. Onal was amazing in Bloodleaf and I was so glad to see her featured so prominently in Greythorne. She was an absolute treasure and I loved her backstory.

Series Value

After reading Bloodleaf, I knew this was a series I wanted to stick with. Now, after having read Greythorne, I’m even more sure this is an awesome series. As soon as someone wants to send me a copy of Ebonwilde, I’ll be reading it.

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed this book. I liked Bloodleaf a lot but I loved Greythorne. Aurelia’s character growth was amazing and I loved the way the plot came full circle. I’m super excited to see what happens in Ebonwilde and I really hope that we can see some of that story told from Zan’s perspective.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Recommendations for Further Reading

Ebonwilde by Crystal Smith – I haven’t read Ebonwilde yet but I definitely will be reading it! I can’t wait to find out how this stunning series concludes.
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin – if you enjoyed the witchy elements of the Bloodleaf series, try this series by Shelby Mahurin. Book 2, Blood & Honey came out on September 1, 2020 as well.

One of the rare cases when a sequel is better than the first book. RTC.

***
Even the second novel of this trilogy is - like the previous one - an average book, no too good not too bad. In addition, compared to the first one, it also suffers from the "bridge-book" syndrome: it's the usual middle book of a trilogy, whose almost-only purpose is to transport the reader from the previous book to the final one, giving little impetus to the plot (during almost three hundred pages, there are a only handful significant events) and not making the characters evolve so much.

A fantastic sequel novel to Bloodleaf! I really enjoyed Greythorne a lot!

Aurelia’s journey in Book 2 dealt with a lot of self discover about herself and her family and who she can truly trust. She is such a completely new person at the start of Greythorne! She is a stronger person and coming to terms with the wrenches life has dealt her since the end of Bloodleaf. We first meet up with Aurelia and she is mourning the loss of two people she cares for dearly: her mother
and Zan.
She is also dealing with struggles of dreams of blood, burning, and death. She might have the title of Princess, but nobody treats her as such.

The story progresses quite well and had me staring at the pages like WHAT?!?!?! at some of the twists and turns for the plot. Learning exactly who is a part of Aurelia’s family lineage was something I did not expect! Aurelia’s character development progressed nicely through the novel. I liked how certain sections of the story had Aurelia teaming up with Zan and others with Kellan. She cares so deeply for them both. Aurelia’s relationship with Conrad is so precious. You see just how deep their love for each other runs. They will do everything in their power to help and protect each other.

The ending chapters were so wild! Seeing all the pieces fitting together was great. I loved how Crystal Smith wrote this part.
It really made the book do a complete circle back to the beginning to see exactly the plan Aurelia had set up for her future self in specific past moments.

I’m excited to see how this all ends!

And now I have to wait until August. Great. I NEED MORE.
