Honestly, best cast of characters in this series so far. Having read all of the books that came before this (chronologically), I loved seeing all the different pieces of the history tie together—sometimes in ways that were absolutely crazy and unexpected. It was definitely “beyond walnuts and into pistachio land” as Niblik would say.

I would rate my enjoyment of this book at 5 stars. As a bridge between Sullivan’s original series the Riyria Revelations and his prequel series Legends of the First Empire, it does a fantastic job.

I am giving it 4 stars because there were a few too many plot points that, in my opinion, should have jeopardized certain missions, but due to incompetent antagonists, no problems would arise. While I knew the ultimate conclusion to the story due to the original series, I wish there had been more push and pull at the end debating other courses of action. I can’t be too critical of this particular point, however, because it’s in line with the main character’s personality.

Definitely the richest of the three in this particular set of books from the world. Farilane was really good and maybe worth reading as a stand-alone, but I prefer Esrahaddon largely due to so much page time spent with people known from the other stories.

The characters were great but the ending didn’t make sense, felt like a lot of unnecessary things happened.

This took me forever to finish even though it was an audiobook. It just seemed too easy to put down. While Esrahaddon was not a bag character I did not enjoy the pacing of this book that basically told four different stories over the span of Esrahaddon's life. While they all came together more or less in the end, I do not enjoy time jumps and what they do to the story.
I did enjoy the Easter eggs for the rest of Elan but am thinking this book might work better for someone who hasn't read all other Elan books (because Esrahaddon's willful ignorance of supernatural events is very tiring and knowing the ending without knowing the surviving takes some of the suspense out of this book.

Ultimately a fun read, but feels more like four novellas than one novel

Well, this book ended with a bang!! If you know …you know.

I was thrilled to discover that another Michael J. Sullivan book included the humorous yet sometimes sarcastic banter and witty remarks that I’ve come to expect from the author. The characters in this book are well-crafted, with some endearing and lovable personalities while others leave a bit to be desired. The book strikes a perfect balance between these elements. One of my favorite characters is Neblick. My brother started Bookclub 2.0, on this journey of reading through Michael J. Sullivan’s entire catalog of works. We’re thoroughly enjoying the experience and have only three books left in this connected series. I can’t help but feel a sense of dread as we near the end of this wonderful reading journey!
