Paranormal romance is new territory for me, so I wasn’t sure how typical some aspects were—but overall, I enjoyed the ride. The plot was decent, even if a few background details felt a little tossed in.

That said, Jessica Cage’s writing had me hooked. The narrator felt like one of my homegirls telling me a story, which made it super engaging. I was never bored, but I do think some scenes—especially the fight moments—could’ve used a bit more breathing room. There’s one in particular that felt like a big turning point, and I wish it had hit harder.

Now let’s talk spice, because whew—this is where the book really delivered. I was hesitant about the blood play going in, but baby… consider me converted.

I haven’t read a vampire book since Cirque du Freak in middle school, but this one officially made me a fan of paranormal romance. It was our June book club pick, and I’m so glad my friend chose it—I was downloading book one before I even finished. Now I’m just waiting (impatiently) for the next release.

Thank you to Simon Maverick and Libro.fm for gifting me a copy of the audiobook to listen and enjoy.

This is the second Jessica Cage book I have read and I love her writing! She’s so witty and her characters have so much sass, I’m entertained from the get go. This one did seem to be pretty similar to book one just with vampires instead of demons but I didn’t mind. Also Tempest Mensah as the narrator is perfect, absolutely perfect her voice is amazing haha. She’s hilarious. I liked that we are in a human world but with monsters and that the humans don’t really know about the monsters. I enjoyed that our main character Whitney learned all kinds of things in this book haha. Her friends were real gems and I liked Domino a lot too.
I don’t have too much more to say, besides I enjoyed this book and I would totally recommend it. I’ll definitely keep my eyes out for book three in October.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!! I absolutely loved Whitney and Domino together! I also loved Whitney best friends; Lena and Jackie. I loved how all of them were there for Whitney when she found out what they truly are and what she herself is. I fucking hated Reddick!!

The narrator Tempest Mensah did absolutely AMAZING!! I loved her voice so much for this book! She brought all of the charterers to life!!

I went into this book blind to the plot, but having heard of Cage's other books, so I had an idea of what to expect but also no idea what was coming at all. The plot was actually the best part, I think. Overall it felt well-rounded, the pacing kept me interested and I was invested in the storyline. There were some plot-twists that I didn't see coming  and most importantly, the book was fun! It's a good book and I had a good time reading it.

The characters felt lackluster to me, specifically in the chemistry department. I didn't feel like Domino and Whitney really liked each other outside of the circumstances forcing them together. I actually liked Whitney's banter with her friends better! That being said, I'm still going to go back and read Cage's other books so she did something right.

This ended up being a little different than I was expecting... I thought it was going to be a straight up vampire story, but the world opens up to many more supernatural
and extraterrestrial
aspects. Felt a little muddled for a minute but definitely finds its footing.
The spice level is really great, doesn't feel forced into the story, which I enjoyed.
Loved the writing style and look forward to reading more by this author.
