I feel like Temperance starts the beginning of each book decently intelligent but by the time we reach the climax, she's entered full on stupid mode. Just zero critical thinking.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was really intricate and kept me guessing. My only wish is that the author did not feel the need to place Brennan in a potentially deadly scenario at the end of every book. I feel that the books are good enough without that added bit of drama each time.

I have been reading the bones books in order, and I’m starting to realize that they all follow the same basic pattern.

Brennan gets a case or two, they are usually somehow connected but no one believes her that they’re connected, so she sets out to prove it herself. There are usually issues with Ryan due to miscommunication and Brennan assuming he’s not interested in her. She ends up facing the bad guy alone, getting knocked unconscious, and then somehow, Ryan or another male detective figures out where she went and saves her. It ends in the hospital, with all miscommunications being resolved and the detectives explaining all the links to her.

Add in multiple pages of over-explanation of topics that don’t really add to the plot. I usually skip these pages, honestly, and I’ve never missed any information that was relevant later on.

I’m starting to wonder how Brennan doesn’t have brain damage, and how she’s an expert on seemingly unrelated things. But I like the characters, I like the mystery, and I’ll keep reading the series to see if the pattern breaks.

Both the personal and professional present a gloomy mystery for Dr. Brennan in the seventh book of this series.

I liked how the author pulled us along with tidbits of clues wondering how it would all pan out and who would come out the victor. I have to add that I also liked Brennan’s friend, Anne, playing a larger role in this story.

On to the next book! ☝

Ok book seven, and now I’m so into this author I’m starting to lose myself in her stories. This one is about Stockholm syndrome. So good!
