Overview:
Ryker & Wren. Book 3. Standalone, but part of a series with some recurring characters. It’s not mandatory to read the prior books to understand this one. It might help you understand the secondary characters a little, but you will do just fine if you skip Books 1 & 2. Dual POV. Most of the book takes place in Russia.

The Story:
Ryker is the ultimate tortured hero. Literally. Going through Hell with his Green Beret team didn’t destroy him, but he is definitely suffering from some heavy guilt due to the outcome of the team’s captivity. My heart has had a little pitter patter for Ryker since Book 1 and I certainly fell in love with him when I read his story in this book.

Wren is a hacker and is very headstrong and loyal. She suffers from panic attacks and anxiety. Even though all signs point to her brother OD’ing on heroin, she is convinced he was clean and becomes his biggest advocate and does whatever it takes to uncover the truth about his death.

I really loved both these characters. The story is action packed from the very beginning and not only do the H/h take on the evil dregs of society, they also face the demons within and learn to trust one another. These two are definitely damaged and unfortunately Wren gets even more damaged in this book and it was heartbreaking to see her struggle with something that was not her own doing. However, Ryker stands by her side and uses his own experiences to guide Wren through the new demons she has to face.

Overall:
Overall this was a great series, but Book 3 was definitely my favorite. The build up in Books 1 & 2 to Ryker’s story did not disappoint. His heart and beautiful soul are definitely swoon worthy and he ended up with the perfect person for him. It’s ends with a HEA and an epilogue.

My takeaway from this series....there is beauty in the flaws and the scars. You just have to be willing to really listen to the story of their existence and accept and love the person behind those scars unconditionally.

Below is from the author’s notes at the end of the book and it really captures the heart of this series.

”I write characters I call “beautifully broken.” Why? Because I think in some ways, every one of us is a little bit broken. But broken isn’t always a bad thing. We all go through dark times in our lives. Times that threaten to break us. Times that do break us. But that doesn’t mean we’re anything less than beautiful. Or capable. Or perfect. Just the way we are.”

Trigger:
Spoilerh is captured and given heroine against her will. She is not raped while in captivity, and is only held a few days. However, she has an addictive personality and quickly becomes dependent on the drug. Once she is rescued, she has to fight the heroine demon she endured while captive.

So good

Ryker and Wren’s story was amazing. My heart hurt for Ryker and all he had been through but I loved how Wren could see through his pain and to the real him and brought him out of his shell. Wren was tenacious, loyal, and loving. The action kept me on the edge of my seat and was very entertaining.

Definitely not an easy read with all the vivid descriptions of awful things that happen to several main characters. But loved the story.

Ryker literally went through hell during his last mission while serving his country and is now at tipping point after his team made up of other assorted ex military guys and gals almost lose one of their own. He decides to finally reach out to Dax who was the only other team mate to make it out of 15 months of hell after being captured however he appears to have left it too long and while leaving Dax's work he bumps into Wren and now his life has a purpose again and he will do what he can to keep her brothers promise because promises mean everything to Wren and her brother. This is a roller coaster of emotion that leads 2 people into finding out someone will love them for all of their flaws and shows them if they really want something they will fight for it. Be ready for tense times, white knuckle situations, steamy scenes and estranged friends becoming close once again.

This book had a bit of everything.
It had action, military, mafia,a hacker and something I love.. a tortured hero.
The romance was very satisfying. Definitely a hero I easily was rooting for.
I adore the characters so much. Ryker’s tortured past makes his evolution so satisfying.
The secondary characters are great, they add a lot to the plot and story.
Once I started this book I was hooked!
I’m so excited that it’s a series of standalones. I can’t wait to read the other characters stories!
Really loved it and highly recommend it.

I listen to a lot of romantic suspense, and Patricia Eddy continually remains as one of my favorite listens. This third book of the Away From Keyboard series is gripping from the first scene and had me is chaos for the entire listen. I could not wait to hear what was going to happen! We get to know Ryker. He is a former green beret and has been through more than anyone should experience. When he meets Wren and hears her story, he is both attracted to her and wants to help her. Wren is a talented hacker, but needs the expertise and strength of strategic warriors. With the Russians at the ready, these two, along with help from their friends, West, Dax and Inara go in search of a woman. There are a few things I really love about the way Eddy writes. Her characters are flawed. Wren suffers from anxiety disorder and rather than gloss over it, she deals with it realistically. Ryker has his own personal issues and they are dealt with head on. There is no nonsense and it's refreshing to have an author attack subjects like that. If you enjoy thrilling suspense, action packed scenes, strong characters and steamy passion, this book and this series is for you.

And with all that being said, the narration is exquisite. Aiden Snow's raspy, deep voice brought the Ryker to life. His performance exuded the pain and guilt he carried and made you feel compassion for him. Grace Grant makes Wren such an incredibly strong opponent with a voice full of confidence for her trade, and also a sound of understanding and love. This team brought the story to life and kept it thrilling and passionate.
