Do you want to be transported to a world filled with magic, mystery and adventure? Does the Halls of Ivy sound intriguing? Perhaps there's magic in your blood and a hidden scrivenist inside you. The Crowns of Croswald by D.E. Night is the perfect read for you. This is the first book in the series, so this is a magical journey that you won't easily forget.
That being said, the moment I started reading I was absorbed into this unique story about sixteen year old Ivy Lovely who works as a scaldrony maid at the Castle Plum. She is friends with a dwarf named Rimbrick, but as she discovers her true identity at the famous magical school, the Halls of Ivy, the name of Rimbrick will come across her path, revealing information that adds to the changes in Ivy's life.
With the shadow of the Dark Queen looming over everyone in Croswald, something is tugging at Ivy as she attends her classes in the Halls of Ivy. She feels drawn to the Forgotten Room which houses everything that needs to be forgotten, even the memory of the existence of the room is forgotten.
I loved the detail the author puts into the little things for example Ivy's Reading List included in her First Year Class Schedule. The titles are so well-named and seem realistic. My favourite is The Compass Collectis: A Collection for Collaboration and Comprehension One million authors and counting. I also love the illustrations at the beginning of each chapter. While reading this story I experienced an indescribable feeling, perhaps it's the magic, but it left me wishing Croswald was real. This story ends on a cliffhanger and leaves you wanting more.
I highly recommend this book to lovers of middle grade, coming of age, Young Adult and obviously magic! Lovers of Harry Potter will definitely enjoy this.

This is a Lovely book. It reminded me enough of Harry Potter to sweep me up in nostalgia but held its own delightful magic. I can't wait to read more about Ivy Lovely.
I received an online copy of this book in exchange of a honest review.
I first have to say that I do think this book is light, sweet and easy to read - it's a great book for all ages, for people who love magic and adventure.
I really loved this book! It's full of magic and adventure to the point you can't skip a beat nor put it down. It's sweet, at times sad, and the characters are interesting and thrilling. Our main character, Ivy Lovely, is such a sweet girl who deserves everything in this world - she has such a sad upbringing until she finds the magic in herself. She's also adventurous and full of mischief and life. I also really liked the side characters and can't wait to get my hands on the second book because I really need more of this story as soon as possible. Definitely worth a five stars review. I just really felt like I was going on adventures with Ivy, sitting with Rebecca and following along with Fyn. I hope to see more of this trio as the story develops on the next book. See you in Croswald!
P.S. I give it 5 stars because I truly felt immersed in the story and I couldn't put it down because it was such an easy read. I didn't find it complex (characters or worldbuiling wise) but it was such a good story to make you forget the world that i really think it does deserve all the stars for that.

2.5 Stars
*I was asked by the author to read and review this book in exchange for a free copy of the book*
This story had a lot of potential following 16 year old Ivy throughout her discovery of possessing magic and going to attend her first year at the magic school.
Unfortunately, it felt like there were parts of the story that jumped from scene to scene which was a bit disorienting. I also wish the characters had been more developed.
Overall, a cute, fun middle-grade fantasy to read for fans of Harry Potter and other related stories. I definitely think that the book stays true to its age category despite the protagonist being 16 years old.

This story is way to similar to Harry Potter, it has the same plot: an orphan girl lives with a person that doesn’t love her or care about her, until one day she receives a letter inviting her to assist a magic school. Then, we discover that she is someone special and needs protection from a evil queen.
The book is really descriptive, I feel that there is more description that plot. It was really hard to pick up the pace of the reading , the first part, for me, was eternal, too much description for my taste. On the second half of the book, when Ivy, our protagonist, stars classes, the story stars to keep up the pace; however, I felt that everything happened too fast and everything comes so easy for Ivy.
I never felt that much connection with the characters, because I didn’t feel that they have addressed or mentioned enough about their feelings and emotions, that's why I couldn’t crear a connection with them. However, I think this group of three has the potential to explore and develop.
I believe this book is more suited for children and that this story will work really well for them, it has a well developed magic world and a easy to understand plot, that is why I think is a good introduction to the fantasy reading for kids.
Finally, I think the best of the book is the world building, that is amazing, on the contrary, the characters and the plot are too weak for my liking.

They have offered me a NetGalley copy for an honest review. This novel is so entertaining and joyful, reminds me of Harry Potter's world, yet the magic system is imaginative and original.
I recommend this for each reader who wishes for a break from reality to escape to fantasy-lands.

Thanks to D.E Night for the opportunity to read this lovely book!
It wasn't easy to rate this book bc even if it was enjoyable I felt it was not for my age hahaha I'm 30yo! Anyways it was quite a adventure with Ivy (the main character), as I see everyone says, this book reminds a lot Harry Potter series and I have to agree.
I love the magical creatures in this book, the main character has this lovely mini dragon that goes with her to the school its called the Halls of Ivy, she is destinated to become a scrivenist, a book packed full o magic and spell and adventures!
I highly recommend if you love fantasy middle grade books!
