I think a lot of good decisions preceded this book, mainly the hiring of Anthony Reynolds. An author who is already familiar with a grand world with set rules and predetermined expectations (A.k.a. the Warhammer 40k universe), was a great idea. His ability to juggle a lot of characters people care about in a plot that functions, AND make it the novel to kick off the League of Legends novelised universe is on full display.
I think I only had one personal gripe with the book which was the pacing felt pretty slow, however that also isn't too much of a downside because it allows you to settle into the world. Also it may be due to me already knowing how the novel ends before I even began, but either way, a really enjoyable read and I definitely hope Riot regard it as a worthy catalyst to continue this universe in novel form!

A very cool fantasy book of the world of League of Legends. However, even if you have never played the game, it's still a great story, all the characters are introduced in the book itself. The story from different points of view, switching each chapter. For those familiar with LoL (like me) they already know the ending, but not exactly how we got there, so still definitely worth a read!

It was a great story filled with many known and unknown characters. I only wished to see Viego's POV at the end as we've seen Thresh's and Kalista's. It'll be interesting if we get a sequel to this novel and see how things end and what are the further relations between Hecarim and Kalista as blue-greenish "monsters" lurking on these islands.

Umm.

Guys...

I am not OK.

I have never played League of Legends, I don't even know anything about it. But I trust Elliot Brooks and she gave this book her praises. Other reviews said that a knowledge of the video game is not required for enjoying this book. I got sucked in because of the premise: member of the royal family goes on a quest to find a cure for the queen who's been poisoned in an assassination attempt. Great! I love quests! And right away, I loved these characters- Kalista, Tyrus, Vennix (especially Vennix :)). A big portion of the book takes place on the high seas, I love a nautical adventure. I also love a soft magic system, which we got.

BUT Y'ALL THAT ENDING. For like 350 pages, I was just loving the story. Now I don't know what to do with my life.

So yeah. 5 stars. Someone please read this so I can talk about spoilers and process all these feelings.

You can definitely read this if you have no clue about League of Legends. The writing is more on the easy, accessible side, but I didn't expect a literary masterpiece. Betrayal, misplaced anger and trust run high in this one. I love the lore and don't know if I can play Thresh with a clear conscience anymore.
And justice for Kalista and Ledros
