One of my favourites. It's the setting and the murder is, I want to say a fun one but I don't mean fun, the murder is... nope, still want to say fun! That feels so wrong but I can't think of another way to describe it. I will say that I always felt that final murder was unnecessary and over the top. It felt a bit like Agatha Christie telling us without telling us what she thought of certain types of authors and well I happen to love those sorts of authors so maybe I'm projecting! :D
Anyways, this has always made me want to do one of those cruises down the Nile and it still does. I just hope that if I ever get to do it there isn't 5 bodies in bags coming off after!
I've a few different cruise companies picked out but a current favourite is Sanctuary Retreats on the The Sanctuary Nile Adventurer.

But I also really want to go with Nour El Nil, they've been on my bucket list for YEARS!!

Just need to win the lotto now. You know I think my love of luxuries holidays started at about the age 6 when I saw my first Agatha Christie! :D

Three and a half stars rounded up. Death on the Nile was a clever and fun read. While reading this book, I also experienced for the first time truly coming close to solving an Agatha Christie mystery, which is exciting! The humour of the novel was bang on and the narrator of the audiobook was excellent. At times, I found Death on the Nile to be the teeniest bit silly, and definitely noticed that it borrowed here and there from Christie's other works. Overall, I found it to be an enjoyable read, but not my favourite of Agatha's. I'm glad I read it, and it made for a great road trip accompaniment.

You know I'm stressed because I stopped reading everything else so I could read Agatha Christie. I truly enjoyed all of the puzzle pieces that fit together in this one. Lots of things going on.
The biggest caveat with Christie is the casual--and not so casual-racism.

As a lifelong Christie devotee, I wanted to love this novel. But I did not. It took me almost a year to get through, and I restarted it twice in that time. Once you get over the first half the story picks up, but I was always wary of where the story would go. I was able to figure out who the murderer was earlier than I typically do, though I couldn’t make out how it happened. Still, I am often disappointed when I am right about who the killer was, and this taints my perception of the story in general. An entertaining story with an ultimately predictable resolution.

This is a book-group choice that I clipped through. I seldom read mysteries on my own accord but we're reading the Christie biography in Feb so are reading one of her mysteries for January.
I had NO idea who did ANY of the murders. Sure fooled me!

Some quite nice twists and red herrings. A fairly cynical ending I thought, there in the last few pages. Poirot, as a character, doesn't seem to be quite the same persona as I enjoyed in the other books. There is something darker and more jaded I think? I think it feels, overall, somehow more "mature" in its views on morality and the machinations that motivate people to crime. There are, perhaps, a few too many pieces in play (is my initial thought upon completion). But I did enjoy it and am curious to watch the film adaptations now.
