Chris van Tulleken balances scientific rigour with accessibility, and deftly navigates his subject with sensitivity and compassion. This book has irrevocably changed the way I look at food.

An absolute must read for anyone who lives in the world and eats food. Fascinating, revolting and demonstrative of the endless greed and corruption of capitalism at the expense of our planet and our physical and mental health. The audiobook is very well narrated by the author; he is highly emotive and engaging. It has changed the way I look at and consume food, definitely for the better. Not to be missed. 10/10

Super interesting and lots of great data. This would have been a 5, but I really didn't like the interview sections between chapters. They were repetitive and felt like they were ripped from a podcast instead of produced for the book (the sound quality was inconsistent and the conversations were a bit stilted and sometimes off topic).
The actual chapters were all great though. This seemed like a long book for a pretty simple idea, and one that's been touted in other ways (see Michael Pollan: Eat food, not too much, mostly plants), but I was never bored with the topic presented at any given point as he is an engaging communicator. This isn't a diet book, and he stays (mostly) in the realm of facts and figures about processing, regulations (lack thereof), and chemistry. Spoiler alert, they're all horrifying. Happy snacking!

A truly eye-opening book that had me intently reading every page. Did not rate it 5 stars as I thought some of the language could be a bit simpler for better accessibility, as this is a book we should all be reading!

really interesting read - gave me loads more companies to happily boycott. junk food companies like nestle should be treated with the same disdain as fossil fuel companies.
