It was a lovely book and I loved the message and the artwork. I'm glad there are books like this one out in the world now, gives me hope.
The rhyming text is a lot of fun to read and the illustrations are beautiful! A wonderful modern fairy tale that I might like better than King & King. I look forward to the rest of the series in the collaboration of GLAAD and Bonnier Publishing.
Reading 2020
Book 152: And Tango Makes Three by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell, I Am Jazz by Jessica Herthel, and Prince & Knight by Daniel Haack
Reviewing three picture books together for one book. Reading from the 10 Most Challenged Books of 2019 for #bannedbooksweek and this book also fulfills my #30booksin30days (book 23) and #youbetYA2020 (book 18) challenges.
All three of these books are picture books and represent three unique stories. Tango is the telling of a story of real penguins at the Central Park Zoo. Two male penguins want to sit and hatch their eggs like the other penguins couples using a rock as a substitute. When the zoo gives the couple an extra egg from another couple Tango is hatched, and they become a family of three. This story was so cute, my rating 5⭐️.
Jazz was born a boy, but knows she is supposed to be a girl. Told from the real experiences of Jazz Jennings, who is now a spokesperson for transkids all over the world. Another sweet story, 4 ⭐️
Prince and Knight are battling a dragon, what they find in their duel with the beast is a friendship and a love they were looking for in their lives. 4 ⭐️

Soooooo cuuuuuuute. The illustrations were lovely, but the text/rhyme wasn't anything remarkable.
Additionally, this is a great book for visual literacy. The connection between Prince and Knight doesn't need words. The illustrations don't obfuscate the relationship; they celebrate it. Anyone of any age can understand what binds the two, even the little ones who can't read. <3

I had the pleasure of getting to watch this being read by the author after it was revealed that this was the #5 most challenged book of 2019. The illustrator was also there and answered questions.
I absolutely looove this story. It’s sweet and kind and brings a joyful twist on fairytales. The story rhymes, which gives it a sing sing quality to the overall plot and the illustrations are gorgeous, bright, and full of love. They were my favorite part. The artist is very talented and I’d read anything she illustrates now. While it breaks my heart that people are trying to censor this, I love its message and think it’s the perfect book for a storytime or children’s collection

It's cute. It's really cute. And that's wonderful. It's wonderful that kids may have access to books like this one if needed, if wanted, if just because they like books. We shouldn't be afraid of the topic, but we adults should be available to answer questions in a way that kids can understand according to their age and development.
