This charming picture book provides a new twist on a tried-and-true fairytale theme, as a handsome young prince, encouraged by his parents to find his bride, discovers he is looking for a different kind of life partner. The illustrations have great appeal and will surely be enjoyed by readers who learn that love comes in many forms. -Louisa A.

Wonderful! The illustrations call up the colors and stylization of Disney's Sleeping Beauty, and the rhyming narrative is deft and sweet. Both text and illustrations don't pull any punches re: gay romance, either, the way some queer-friendly books for children do: there are a kiss and some deep eye contact, actual touching rendered on the page, and there's a line about "the two men's wedding day" in the happily ever after. It's a well-done story in the style of a fairy tale, and it's freaking great!

There are many times I wish we lived in different times, but then I read a book like that and am just so happy we live in a time where picture books like this one exist. A lovely story about a prince who has to marry and while this is a fairy tale, he doesn't want to marry a princess. Told in short, fun rhymes and accompanied by lovely pictures that are somewhat reminiscent of Disney but not quite as smooth, this is a wonderful book. I'm not quite the target audience, but it made me smile and happy, so there's that, and I think it's a great story to read to kids from age 3-4, I'd say.

I love the picture book about the gay penguins, but I also think it's not a bad idea to tell stories like this one featuring people as well, since kids are more likely to encounter LGBTQIA people than penguins. (Unless they live in some kind of penguin commune, which might not be such a bad thing.)

"[dedication] To those who have faced scarier foes than dragons in the fight for love"

Pretty book with a great message, story is okay, nothing super exciting. Not wild on dragon fighting, and the rhyme was a little awkward at times. Would definitely still display. It's sad how revolutionary this book seems for me!

There's a lot to love about the story here and I like the art style but the rhymes are pretty forced and background characters could have used some more diversity.

Adorable! It doesn't have a great flow to the rhyme, though, sadly.

Sweet and fun rhyming story of a prince meeting his perfect partner. The illustrations are a perfect match, adding a classic-Disney feel to the story and the book is well designed. Highly recommended for ages 3-6.

A quick, cute read that brought a smile to my face!

This was a holiday gift for my 5-year-old nephew, bought on the suggestion of my librarian friend who has a copy for themself. We're slowly introducing more queer subjects to my nephew, who has always known me as "Uncle Dill" and used they/them pronouns. This book is not only sweet but has the most beautiful illustrations. The story flows effortlessly, allowing for the progression of characters and arc. There's not a trace of homophobia or non-acceptance, which warms my heart! Queer Princes are just queer princes, allowed to marry the Knights of their heart's choosing. I love this book and would adore more like it.

Lovely illustrations and it's wonderful to see an unambiguous gay love story in a picture book, but the rhythm of the rhyming lines is SO OFF! I stumbled over every other page, I can't imagine reading it out loud without a struggle.
