Silly fun

An absurd conman gets kidnapped out of prison by aliens and is forced to join a band of misfits to stop a galactic war. It's a quick and entertaining read, even if it doesn't make a lock of sense.

This is probably one of the funniest and most enjoyable sci-fi stories I've read in a long time. I laughed out loud at several parts and think, in general, this was cleverly written and engaging. I will definitely be checking out subsequent books in the series. The only downside of the book was that I found the protagonist (Cal) particularly grating in the middle of the book when he seemed solely concerned with trolling his fellow crew members by doing things that annoyed them. A few of his jokes (putting "space" in front of everything, for example, or not taking things seriously to the point where he seems genuinely stupid for not comprehending the gravity of what's happening) are funny at first but just get absolutely run into the ground. His character arc is satisfying by the time things wrap up, but there's definitely a point in the middle where his antics are a real detriment to the rest of the book. That said, though, I really did enjoy this and will undoubtedly read the next installment.

3 stars but 2.5. The story rattled along reasonably enough. I didn't really find it all that amusing your mileage may vary. Might pick up the next one to see if it improves.

3.5 - listened to the graphic audiobook. The full cast were fantastic. Some of the background noises were a bit unessesary at times though.

The book had some parts which made me laugh out loud but overall the story was a bit bland.

Might continue to the second book if I get bored.

Funny. Really funny

Space team by Barry Hutchison is the first book in a series. I decided to try a sample first and had enough giggles in the first few pages to justify getting the whole thing. The writing is witty and funny. It's not super original world building but it's not supposed to be. If you are a sci fi fan looking for a funny read, this is the book for you.
