Definitely an enjoyable read but not the best or most original book out there. If you read the synopsis you can pretty much guess what’s going to happen throughout the book with little to no surprises thrown in. The romance felt very instalovey, and some of the characters felt really one dimensional. The king and queen of Lera for example felt very back and white and didn’t have much depth besides being the main villain in Em’s narrative.

The world building was pretty nonexistent sadly. We get mentions of other countries but not much information besides the basics. I don’t feel like I know the world besides the fact that the walls of the castle are all a different color. I also wish we got more information on the ruined because I feel like I don’t understand anything about them other than the fact they have powers and markings on their body that show that they have powers.

Still plan on continuing to see what happens but there’s definitely similar books with a similar idea that have a better plot and that I can get behind the characters and romance a little more

Still in love with this book!

Oh, and Olivia is still fucking scary as shit.

Ruined is such a good freaking book. I also really liked listening to the audio version this time (I used to just read the physical - but alas! I was at work and needed my audio books).

First off, I will forever love and ship Emelina, aka Em, and Casimir. FOREVER GUYS. They are just way too adorable and slightly innocent that it's kind of hard not to fall in love with them. Their slow blossoming romance gives me so much joy. The way they would protect each other no matter what brought happy tears (and no I didn't cry while listening to this at work).

Em would do anything in her power to get back her sister. The one person she was supposed to protect was taken from her. Then her father was killed and shit really hit the fan. Her people basically shunned her because she doesn't have a power. Little do they know that she's made plans in order to get back Olivia.

Casimir was innocent and naïve to everything around him. I hated his mom and his cousin. His dad was kind of douche. I wasn't surprised, shocked, or sad when his dad and mom died. WHY? Because I hated them all. I didn't like how they treated him at all. It made me mad. That is why I loved when he had Em, even though she tricked him into thinking she was actually Mary (who he was supposed to marry). In the end, they definitely fell for each other and I can't wait to see what I remember in the second book.

Overall, I loved this book and my ship. Olivia scares the shit out of me still because I know she's one crazy psycho. I already know shit is going to be intense in the next book because she basically plans to kill anyone and everyone that breathes. She's dangerous and I love it.

BRING ON THE REVENGE BABY!

My mind is blown. So fucking blown.

WHAT A GOD DAMN BOOK!

It was amazing and had me feeling so many emotions.

I love Em. She is a freaking bad ass.
I love Cas. He belongs with Em because she's a bad ass and has saved his life so many freaking god damn times.
I love Aren because he protects Em with his Ruined Power which makes him a super bad ass.
I hated the King, Queen, and Jovita.

AND I LOVED OLIVIA. She is the ultimate savage and will be the Queen of Revenge. Holy shit that ending made me lose my mind.

DROP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND READ THIS BOOK PEOPLE.

“I don’t think this is who I want to be.”

2.5 stars

A classic YA fantasy novel, filled with blood & vengeance, I almost want to categorize it as a trashy beach read for how cookie cutter it felt. I’ve got a load of grievances with this one, unfortunately. Amy Tintera, you really should have just stuck to science fiction.

Let’s start with how absolutely flat this novel is. Over the course of two pages, Tintera turns characters who regarded the other as weird & quite & ugly & boring to “that smile held secrets he desperately wanted to know.” Excuse me?!

That’s not character development. That’s not even…a character ffs. It hurt to read how low effort it really was.

Next, oh man, the main character had legit one personality trait being she would lengthily describe how to kill people immediately as she walks in the room. Oh it got boring after the 45th or so time this was reiterated.

The one that hurt the most — yikes and a half, each and every main character was plain STUPID. Where did all their brain cells go?! Smell too many sharpies??

Who doesn’t question when a princess bride rocks up to her wedding with half a guardsman and a trunk of clothes which don’t fit her? It’s upsetting to believe Em really had gotten away with infiltrating a wedding & life.

And the worst of all, not one part of this novel was truly believable. I didn’t believe in the characters’ emotions, let alone feel them myself. I was scoffing and eye rolling my way through half of this book — it’s only saving grace was that the last third was somewhat entertaining. All in all, my god stay away from this garbage.
