The end of this book has me excited about this series again. The last two books and the beginning of this one were woefully boring and not at all what I’ve come to expect from Kenyon, but she turned it around about halfway. Still not crazy about the series bleed over from Lords of Avalon but I can deal. Overall, not a disappointing read.

I actually didn't finish this book. Like most of the Sherrilyn Kenyon novels at like 70%, it gets boring and with this one I did not have the necessary motivation to continue on. This book does not however reflect on all the other dark-hunters books.

I enjoyed getting Illarion’s backstory, but again I hate how she changes the format of some books. Either they should all have had the backstory or none should.
And I hate when she puts in long scenes from a previous book with literally no changes. At the very least start that recap just before the new information.
I know it’s my choice to keep reading, but she just makes me frustrated.

It was alright.

I had to force myself to read at some points. It just felt like it dragged and didn’t pull me in like others have.

I feel I got ripped off. I can't believe what a crappy job Kenion has done with this one.

"What did she do?" you'd say. I'll tell what she did: she just copied one of her previous books and dared calling it a new one.

THANK GOD I DIDN'T BUY THIS RUBBISH.
(end of the rant) *sighs*

I have to say I was really excited when I started this "new" Dark Hunter novel; after all, I am a fan of the saga. But halfway through the story, Dragonmark met Cadegan's and Max's stories. Everything would've been just fine if SK had summarised those and actually developed Illarion's conclusion. Instead, there's a 49% of this book that actually quotes another book.

This is a first one for me. I've always loved SK's work, but this was just too much. Or should I say too little??

PS: To be fair, I have to say the first half (the one that actually belonged to Dragonmark) was really good. But that only makes what she did after that even worse.

Stale face... stale face like a MOFO. I usually LOVE me some Sherri, but half of this book is a straight up regurgitation from Cadogan/Jo and Max/Sera. I'm tempted to pull those books out and see if it's word for word. I'm not exaggerating. HALF! Of a 344 page book! You're killing me smalls.

So on the one hand, there wasn't a massive rehash in the middle of this book, and there were several laugh-out-loud moments, on the other hand there was HELLA insta-love, ("Your tragic backstory and general badassery matches my tragic backstory and bloodthirstiness. I LOVE YOU!") the two badass MCs were cinnamon rolls, and all of the male characters are beginning to sound alike, just a slight difference in tragic parentage with the same exact tone and sense of humor to their dialogue. Stryker sounds like Styxx, sounds like Falcyn, sounds like Illarian, sounds like Zarek. All supposed to be amongst the baddest of the bad and all full of lines like "Boy, you don't want none of this. I'll eat your bones for breakfast." It's not necessarily what they say, it's HOW they say it.

There was a lot of "SURPRISE, she ain't dead!" going on in this book. (No seriously. A lot.) and a lot of characters being pulled into the story from all over the place. So now there are characters from a world the author wrote under a totally different pen name. That won't confuse people AT ALL. Why not leave the world's separate? Now everything is starting to get muddied. I feel like Nykyrian Quiakides and the Sentella are gonna pop over from the League series next.
