This books was good, I enjoyed it, but deducted stars because of Jacob’s friend Kaley. She’s annoying and doesn’t keep any secrets. She’s the worst kind of “friend”…. She ruined the story for me.

Nice Catching You
I don’t typically read books about college students but I started this one because I wanted to read Book 3. I mostly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next. This is the first time I’ve read these authors.

I wanted to like this but there is so much to not like. Stereotypical characters with no depth. An ending wrapped up with a bow. Bad writing and ... Excalibur, really? The plot holds no surprises other than how few surprises it gives you. The best thing this book did was inspire me to order Mexican food for dinner - and that's pretty sad.

I don't like leaving a negative rating without some context, but I also don't like knocking someone's hard work, so I'll keep this short. There are lots of good reviews for this, and I read it on someone's recommendation, so the story telling style obviously works for some. I'm just not the right audience for this apparently.
My issues here are:
**The main characters in this book were a college senior and a 3rd year law student, but, to me, they're written like 16 year olds. In addition to the immaturity, there isn't any depth to the characters.
**This book reads like a middle grade or maybe YA book aside from the steamy scenes. The storyline is very shallow, overly dramatic, and completely unrealistic.
**Related to that, the way LGBTQ issues were treated (a university in NY kicking an athlete off the team and out of school for coming out as gay) made me think this was written in the late 90s or something, but nope, it was a 2022 release. I live in TEXAS and that kind of stuff wouldn't even happen here - at least not in the open way it supposedly did in this story. The whole situation was straight up ridiculous.
The only reason I didn't DNF this is because it was on audio, and easier to power through, but I won't be continuing with the series.

My Recommendation: This was a great read, but it wasn't perfect. I'm not sure if Taylor and Harwood alternate chapters or if they write both together, but I very much enjoyed both characters and the overall story. Jacob and Nick were perfectly balanced and I hope they make appearances in the other novels of the series!
My Response: I started this book on the plane home from vacation in the Dominican Republic. I wasn't ready for vacation to end and had shockingly finished my school reading. I decided to check this book out after reading The Chrismukkah Crisis, also by Ryan Taylor & Joshua Harwood. I've always been a fan of MM Sports Romances so I figured why not give it a go?
This is the story of Nick, the superstar of the college's hockey team, and Jacob, a nerdy third-year law student at the same college. They meet on a trip when the bus driver somehow flings Jacob through the air into Nick's arms and the story goes from there. Of course, they end up having to share a room and fall madly in love with each other over a ridiculously short amount of time.

Jacob & Nick
Rating: 2.9 ⭐
Narrator: Nick J. Russo
- College Hockey
- One Bed
- Coming Out
- Friends-to-Lovers
- Opposites Attract
- Jock/Nerd
- Found Family
The narration from Nick was great, per usual, the storyline was okay but not great. Overall, the story was okay but had a lot of potential it didn't quite meet. This is the more of a prequel to the series and setup Nick's backstory before he goes to a professional hockey team in the rest of the series.
It read very high school instead of college, so it threw me off while listening to this story. The opening bit with the bullying was where that feeling starts and then kind of trickles throughout the story. Like Nick and naming his thing "Excalibur" even when he's peeing, just uh no. Nicknames for body parts are okay if done without the cringe scenarios, this had a few that took away from the story. I also didn't understand how two students, one about to be a lawyer after graduation, were not using their brains and available resources to fix the legal problem they were facing. Seriously, a reputable law firm even offered to assist and you waited until the last possible moment to do your research and call them for help. I really couldn't get over that and spent a lot of time yelling at the story as it continued.
I did like the couple itself, once Jacob quit trying to change Nick's mind about coming out. Normally the closeted one doesn't want to come out but he did here, and Jacob kept trying to delay it or talk him out of it. Very strange but at least not dragged too long. I liked the families and friends stepping up to support the couple, especially the majority of the hockey team.

I read a book by this author that had these characters in it and I wanted to read their back story. It was entertaining but WAY too long. Seriously could have cut out 100 pages and not lost the story. And the cover is atrocious! I did notice Kindle has a new cover that is much better.

Nick Johnson is a hockey player who is tired of living in the closet. Looking for a meaningful relationship worth coming out for, he finds himself between a rock and a hard place.
Jacob Meyers is a third year law student. With a string of relationships leaving him jaded, he decides to focus on number one.
Nick and Jacob meet in the most unusual way. Also intriguing - he tells Jacob his big secret. They become fast friend and begin to sped time together.
Since Nick is a sports star, people begin to take notice of their relationship. The media ascends and the hill of problems begin to mount.
Can their love survive or will the pressures of life and status get in the way?
