I only started this to fulfil an extremely uninspiring reading challenge prompt… but I just can’t do it. This is not good. I don’t even remember anything at this point after having it on pause for so long. Even while I was reading it I couldn’t remember anything because I simply do not care for it in any way.
Reads as if Xavier from Xavier Renegade Angel was commissioned to write a Conan the Barbarian story.
Rife with misspelled words, incorrect punctuation, and absurdly bad flowery prose The Eye of Argon is indeed a very bad Conan the Barbarian pastiche. However, I think it's rather unfair to call it one of the worst books ever written because it was never meant to be published as one. A sixteen year old kid submitted this story to a fanzine and for whatever reason it was dug up decades later. It's awful as a piece of writing but most of the stuff any sixteen could write would be too.

Do I approve of Theis being mocked and bullied to the point of never writing again? Not really, no. Can I at least understand why that happened anyways? Yeah, for sure.
Terrible writing, uninteresting characters, so many misspellings and typos, and for some reason, the writer seems to be lacking object permanence or may have alternatively had made a vow never to proof read any bit of his story, as he forgets what hand certain objects are held in or what characters have already died which makes reading and making sense of the everything quite the challenge.
Also, an author who writes “she queried breastily?” should probably just quit right then and there anyways.

A Work of ART. poor work of art, but as a 16 year old, it makes sense. between misspellings and the most Purple prose you've ever seen. A Plot that doesn't follow. Heavily inspired by its companions at the time.
