Bernard Cornwell knows his stuff when it comes to Anglo Saxon England and when it comes to writing blood-stirring historical fiction. I will be following Uhtred to the end of the story - with pleasure.

These books are absolute pleasures to read. I mean *assumes grim masculine manner* Thor would be pleased.

Uhtred and clan continue on. Love them all.

This series has caused more compulsive reading than most books from me, and this one matched the others, although the climax in this one felt goofy compared to much the rest of the series.

I think, so far, this one is my favourite of the whole series -- in other words, it seems to be getting better and better.
I thought the part about Thyra's ability to control the wild dogs was a bit.. strange, but it was convenient to keep the story going, I guess. Thyra literally saved Uhtred, Ragnar, Guthred and the rest of their 'army' from getting killed in their attack on the impregnable Dunholm (after Uhtred's plan went awry). It's not a huge issue, but I guess they were all lucky Thyra had that strange power over the dogs.
I admit I was a bit confused with all the names and feuds (with Kjartan, Ivarr, and Ælfric), but I managed to catch up.
I liked most of the characters, but, obviously, some were more interesting to read about than others.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. This series definitely deserves a re-read.

This was my favorite of the Saxon series so far! I cannot wait to read the next one!
