While this might be appealing for kids to look at, I think Light is beautiful and engaging enough for adults alike to enjoy.

The silent graphic novel is adorably drawn and very endearing, following a little goober human as they collect gems that slowly bring more light & color back to the world. Most of the book takes place in a series of caves, where our little bean of a hero is in the pitch blackness, their only illumination coming from the gem fragments they collect and carry in their backpacks.

As we journey through the novel, we see more interesting and strange creatures that make for an entertaining and visually stimulating trip into the world in search of Light.

Cute characters - can I say that about characters that are so bloodthirsty? - and charming story. This was a fun tale with fantastic illustrations and I am certain that I can find students who will enjoy this. If you enjoy Bone or maybe Shaun Tan, then this story may well appeal.

Ah this was adorable. Starts with a heroic quest, there is a lot of killing along the way which was a bit of a surprise. It is kind of like a story that a slightly blood-thirsty child would tell. Also there are only 2 kinds of monsters in the world, the kind you befriend and the kind you kill. The artwork was fun and engaging. The advent of color as each gem is found was beautiful.

I picked this on a whim from net galley because the cover was absolutely gorgeous. and so is what's inside.

this is my first silent graphic novel and, besides my ok rating, I liked it. but, when words fail, image has to prevail. and at times I felt like there was some images missing between actions, to get the full extent of the moments of the story (which I'm not sure I completely did). but the art is gorgeous: the use of colour and black and white is so perfectly explored. will pick more titles from the author.

A small explorer ventures into a dark cave system, seeking treasure. With never a word – not spoken, not written, not necessary – he (he?) discovers a friend, a treasure, and still more adventure, all illustrated in dense black and stark white with only strategic splashes of color. It's lovely "silent" story-telling with seemingly simple artwork, conveying all that could be asked of the personalities of the main character and those he encounters. The little hero is almost featureless, but expresses emotion clearly, and managed to win my heart. And the ending is lovely.

The usual disclaimer: I received this book via Netgalley for review.

An all-ages wordless graphic novel adventure suffused with sweetness and charm. Simple enough to follow easily but spools with waves of surprise to keep the reader gently in its thrall. Echoes of The Hobbit are recognizable, but as homage rather than pale imitation. It stands on its own.

The design and art choices are magical. The beginning intrigues with starkly contrasting black and white illustrations that showcase detail without distraction. The reader's eye is expertly focused, and as the journey builds we are first treated to bursts of monochromatic color and then small combinations. The effect reminds of the technique of crayon etching, in which bright patterns are covered with ink and then designs are drawn with sharp points that reveal vibrant color underneath. There's real play with design, but the standout accomplishment is the way light and luminescence are depicted in various forms.

Enchanting.

This silent graphic novel was absolutely incredible
Much like the little adventurer that goes on a hunt for gems in this story, I love finding hidden treasures such as this one.

An engaging plot, mesmerizing drawings, psychedelic and gorgeous colours - what more is that to want?
