Interesting take on social media for business. Gained new insights!

Loved the little case studies offered for each platform.

Gary Vee is raw and unfiltered. He spits out the free advice that no one ever takes. This is a great read for success in this digital, social era.

While there are definitely some gems of information Crushing It! feels incredibly repetitive, irrelevant or outdated.

Repetitive:
Throughout the book are success stories that can be interesting or inspiring but are all a very similar “Life was bad, I read Crush It! and now life good”.

They really drag on though and there are just SO MANY. Oh and in case there weren’t enough stories in the second half of the book Gary just starts MAKING UP HYPOTHETICAL STORIES that are also really long and drawn out.

Irrelevant:
If you have a pretty basic level of competence using social media you’ll already know the majority of what is being taught.

I won’t discount that this could be useful for someone who’s super inexperienced though.

Outdated:
Not Gary’s fault as the book was published in 2018 but I still see a lot of people recommending it now and to me I’m not sure why. A decent chunk of the information is not really relevant anymore such as the music.ly chapter.

Conclusion/TL;DR:
The 8 hour audiobook feels like 7.5 hours of fluff and maybe 30 minutes of actually useful information.

Unless you’re someone with either a whole lot of spare time or no experience with social media at all I wouldn’t recommend this book.

The not so ground breaking advice from the book is simply to find something you are passionate about and work tireless until you reach beyond your goals. Then promote your work through social media and build your special brand around it. The new and expanded version has samples of other people's success.

Personally I didn't like the book and I was hopeful it would be so much more. Not sure what I expected but the book miss the mark on so many levels. Maybe I am just tired of other people's greed or their ego's. If I wanted this, I could just watch the news where greed and ego rule.

A MUST READ for every entrepreneur, intrapreneur, wantrepreneur...
Social Media is the new medium for EVERY business.
The book is great because it is filled with advices for each platform separately, and containing other people's real life stories how they used the particular platform for their success.

Although, In some things I disagree with Gary (for instance, personal branding as a person and not a company, a lot of people, including me, don't simply wish to be a personal brand, they dislike being a brand themselves, and would rather do the personal brand of their company).

Still, a life changing book, absolutely recommended.

I watched the YouTube and Intagram of GaryVee on an off for a while now but this is his first book that I've read and my final feeling is a little mixed. The various personal stories of different individuals was interesting but also fairly familiar, no great surprises of the various unlikely beginnings and eventual successes that all had a common theme of try very hard, keep working on it and be in it for the experience not the money.

The platform chapters were pretty dull, they told me almost nothing beyond some history of each one and why they were solid platforms that every entrepreneur needs to be on all except for Alex Skills or Voice First. It genuinely interested me seeing as how I don't have an Echo device that it was a growing opportunity if only you could find the right way to do it.

Overall if you need a kick up the backside because you think social media is irrelevant or that you can get away with posting a link on Facebook to your blog the by all means give it a read. It is not a set of blueprints though, that should be obvious because every personal story is so unique that the only common denominator is that they didn't know how to use social media initially but they learned and managed to get the hang of it.

Final thought being that you will not make a lot of money from Ad Sense, you need to get the brand deals and speaking engagements to really see any money. However making the money must never be the goal or it will be obvious to everyone who sees your content.

I understand why some won't like this book. Gary Vee comes off as an arrogant blowhard; he's insistent that he doesn't care what anyone thinks, but then confesses he lets his response to the comments of others absorb his time; a lot of his suggestions come off as aggressive, overbearing, and unrealistic; he seems intent on "crushing it" every free moment instead of taking some time to enjoy life. And, on top of that, a large percentage of the book is taken up by stories of people who wrote in following the success of the earlier Crush It!

All of these points are valid. But it's hard to deny that Gary is very motivating.

It's hard to read to this book and not let your brain start churning with ideas. It's hard not to get excited about possibilities.

Hidden amidst the filler are bit of valuable information about how to approach different social sites. While some of his tactics might be borderline conniving, he does stress the importance of quality content and approaching others with a caring and supportive attitude.

You don't have to like the author to be motivated by him. You don't have to agree with all he says in order to inspired to create something. Look at it as an energy boost for your brain, then get to work.

DNF due to having to return the novel before I finished it. Will pick it up again soon! From what I read, 4 stars!

great examples, great take-aways, inspiring stories
