My low rating has nothing to do with the quality of the book, only my enjoyment of it. That's entirely my own fault - I blindly picked it up without knowing it was a children's book (and the fourth in a series, to boot). I can see this being highly enjoyable to the right audience and with the right background story.

My main takeaway: this is exactly the fever dream fantasy adventure that Sarah in Labryinth must have been reading before her adventure.

I only become more impressed with this book as I reread it. Phenomenal craft.

Just because Cimorene isn't the main character anymore, it doesn't mean that this series is any less cute and fun to read. I still adore the strong characters, the fun story elements, and how everything is magical in these stories.

It was fine. It had good parts, but it felt a little rambling most of the time. I liked Shiara and Suz. And our main character was great with his politeness. Still, it just wasn't as good as the first two books.

Whelp, I've reached the end of the series, and I'm sure gonna miss this rag-tag group of adventurers. Even though this book was written in 1990, long before it ever became the 4th book in the series, it ties in really well with the first three, which were written years later.

The 3rd book was definitely a drag, but it's necessary to understand what's going on in this book. I can't imagine reading this back in 1990, before the prequels...I would imagine there were a lot of unanswered questions.

Overall, I enjoyed how the story wrapped up, and I would definitely recommend this for elementary-aged children who love fairytales and adventure. So glad I stumbled upon this series from a friend's review. I have no idea how I've gone this long without coming across this series before!

I really do love this series, which I s nice. It's fun to know you had good taste as a kid.

My least favorite of the four but still very good with some good new characters.
