I thought the idea of the pleasure-pain scale was interesting, but I didn’t feel like I learned a lot from this book. It’s basically a book on treating addiction, and can be summarized as: be abstinent, use self-binding to prevent drug use, find groups to support you, and be honest (???). The author is also quite judgmental of her patients, which kind of makes me reconsider therapy. Easy to read and I didn’t hate it, but it’s not what I expected.

There are a lot of interesting patient (author is a psych) and personal anecdotes in this book. But I feel that the author strayed to far in supporting self-harm though I don't feel that was her intention. I understand that she was more referring to leaning into the kind of pain you feel post-workout but I don't feel she strongly enough drew a line bw useful pain and scaring and dangerous pain.

It was an interesting read though.

I felt the beginning of it was more informative and useful and the end was stuff I wasn’t interested or already kinda knew about
