𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: accidental pregnancy, football romance, one night stand, bad boy x good girl, forced proximity, opposites attract

Why Damon has to he so adorable with little Clover!!

Damon is a famous football player, who receives a message from a former one-night-stand that she is six months pregnant and that the baby is his. Adeline was hesitant to tell him, but now that Damon knows, they have to figure out how they are going to co-parent.

Adeline knows that Damon is a playboy, but as she spends more time with him, she begins to see another side of him, and that he has many good qualities as a parent and partner. After Clover was born, they spend a lot of time together and unwittingly form a family, but are they ready to reveal that in addition to attraction there are also feelings involved?

The book is a real slow burn, because Damon and Adeline had to learn how to co-parent together, but all this slow burn led to a very high tension between them, and I couldn't wait for it to explode.

Thank you Piper Rayne and Valentine PR for the opportunity to read this amazing book in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve been waiting for Damon’s story for a long time. This man is a playboy but also a jokester who loved tease his friends every time he can. I wasn’t expected a slow burn for him but it was exactly the best way to bring him back to love

An Accidental and Concealed Pregnancy Book for one who doesn't that like these tropes

This pair of tropes are not my go to, but I love this author and Book One of the Chicago Grizzlies was so strong and the glimpses that I had of Damon were so memorable that I just had to try this one. How glad I am I did! This was a refreshing read that left me laughing and felt more like a forced proximity than a pregnancy read. Usually pregnancy is used as a quickly recognized and convenient plot device to fast track a story's development; however, this is not the case here and even though the main characters know each other very well, the author takes her time to slowly develop their relationship and actually makes use of this history to build more character development and humour into the story. At no time did this book rely on the baby to pull the story artificially together, nor did it short change the building of romance and relationship between Adeline and Damon. Yes there was a mad dash to the hospital, but in true Piper Rayne fashion it was a memorable and unique one that had me laughing and going 'Only Damon's story could happen this way!' And that was a recurring comment as I read this whole story! With wonderful dialogue and banter, secondary characters and interfering grandparents that will steal every scene, and one adorable baby it was so much fun to watch The Peter Pan Playboy fall for his Girl - and what a fall it was. The chapters from his perspective were so much fun to read because they shared many of the same uncertainties and fears as Adeline. I was waiting for them to just admit how they felt, but that tension was beautifully written and watching these two co-parents discover that life is so much better shared was always equal parts fun, funny, swooney and steamy.

Something Like Lust by Piper Rayne is the second novel in their newest football series Chicago Grizzlies and it is one I have been waiting for since it was announced!
Sports romance, surprise baby from a one-night-stand and a playboy who turns into the most loveable character ever!

I seriously loooooved Adeline and Damon and all the ups and downs they went through.
Their story was quiet the slow burn that made me sit on the edge of my seat. Their will they won't they was STRONG.

Piper Rayne have NEVER disappointed me and made me obsessed with their characters from the first page onward!

5 Stars!!!

Wow. I think this will be my last Piper Rayne book for a while. Their quality has really plummeted over the years (or my preferences have just changed?). I've noticed this for every book they've released after their Greene Family series. They've all been flops. I haven't liked the Lake Starlight spinoff either.

The pacing in this book was just WEIRD. Like time jump after time jump. The time jumps were illogical and broke the flow of the story. For example, they skipped over her ENTIRE maternity leave (I already forget her first name and don't feel like going back to check lol) and suddenly she's back at work teaching middle school hours away from his/their Chicago apartment.

The reveal with Gwen (I think that was his ex-girlfriend's name??) was also very WEIRD (without getting into details/spoilers). His relationship with his parents/family was weird (I can't think of a better word to describe any of this). I couldn't get a read on his parents.

Overall, this book felt half baked, like Piper and Rayne forgot to fill in all the details in between. I'm already starting to forget it, but by next month, it'll be out of my head entirely. It was THAT forgettable.

I absolutely loved how this book started. You’re immediately dropped right into the thick of things with Damon coming fresh off his Super Bowl win to find out his one nightstand from six months prior is pregnant. No words or time was wasted in hooking my attention and making me invested in the story.

I genuinely loved Damon’s character. From the moment he finds out about his pending fatherhood, he completely changes his lifestyle. He’s devoted, dedicated, and present, even when those around him habitually think a d speak the worst about him. He never allows any of it to affect him and instead pushes harder to be nothing like he was so his baby and Adeline can have the very best of him. Damon Siska is a top notch, five star character.

What ended up hurting this story though, was the way those around Adeline and Damon, especially Damon, treated them. It was rather repetitive that they were not treated as the thirty something adults with successful careers that they were. Almost every side character introduced had several instances of unapologetically talking down to one or both of them, being absent of allowing any benefit of the doubt, and in some cases like one of Adeline’s friends and colleagues was down right nasty. It happened so frequently that it really took away from the story.

Not only that, the continuing occurrences seemed to rub off on Adeline as the book progressed. At the start she had a terrible opinion of Damon but it eventually began to evolve and become favorable. However at any misstep, she was quick to declare him as unreformed and ready to leave her and their baby. In addition to that, she stood back and allowed all the people in her life, her friends and family, to treat him horribly in her presence. It really left an unpalatable taste in my mouth, turning my opinion of her as a character sour.

Finally, there’s a small mystery aspect at play in the beginning and while not important, the fact that it is never resolved left the story feeling unfinished.

For all the flaws I couldn’t help but find glaring while reading, this book still shined and that is 100% in thanks to how Damon was written. He’s a fantastic male lead and definitely a book boyfriend that should not be missed. So while not entirely for me, I think this could still be a truly winning book amongst readers.
