I'm sad to see that this book has so many negative reviews, although I must admit I read it a while ago, and I think if I read it again I might not like it as much. All I will say is that I was hooked from the beginning and found myself turning the lights on in the middle of the night to read the next bit - I loved it.

The cover to this book is amazing and it is what had drawn me in. It is a mix of spooky and mesmerizing all at the same time.

The book itself consumed my thoughts. There is a mixture of different genres between a little romance and a psychological thriller. The main character was written perfectly and you felt her confusion and anguish when trying to piece it all together of what had happened to her. I also felt her frustration as much as she did with her mother.

There are several different love interests and every time I turned a page, I felt like there was a new one on the horizon. I was very happy with the choice that was made and felt early on that this was the guy for Jane. One turned out to be crazy and the other one seemed controlling, demanding and selfish.

By the time the book was ending and all was revealed, I had my “aha” moment when I asked myself why I hadn’t pieced that all together. I enjoyed reading this book a lot. Sometimes it is good to give the paranormal genre a rest:)

“Oh well, it’s over for you. Call the code at 2:03 p.m.”

My eyes widened in shock. “That’s what they say when someone dies.”

“Exactly.” He nodded. “Woman have fallen in love with me after staring like that for only thirty seconds and
I think you just took a full minute. You’re doomed.”

Rosebush came so so close to being awesome, but for me it lost its "wow" factor after the first half.

At first Rosebush was fantastic! Full of suspense and surprises that you won't see coming. The plot is so intriguing, you want to know what almost killed Jane so bad, since she has no memory after of what happened after the accident, you want to flip the pages and get to the end just to find out.
All the characters were nicely pictured. You learn a lot about them, the relationships between them, their background, so you feel like you know them well but at the same time you feel you're just missing a tiny detail, some information about them that would help you get one step closer in cracking the case.
So the first part of Rosebush will go by without you even noticing, really.

Now about the second half. It still had a certain amount of suspense, but not quite enough to keep you interested. In other words, it dragged. And in order to cover the fact that the plot dragged, Jaffe decided to put some extra romances in there which were not believable at all. She did a great job in the 1st half trying to convince us that Jane was head over heels for her boyfriend and had eyes only for him, only to make her throw herself at every male that happened to visit her in the hospital. It was rushed and unnecessary.

The ending was not bad and surprising enough. Although, I would rather the reason behind the killer's actions had something to do with Jane herself, like she did something wrong to piss someone off, instead of the killer being simply a psycho.

I don't think you'll regret picking up Rosebush. It's a very good thriller novel, in which you will be totally engrossed at the beginning but later on it's very possible you'll lose interest.
Recommended to Mean Girls, Private and Pretty Little Liars series fans.

I liked that it was different from the genre, the pacing was good, and the mystery was kept alive throughout the book. Some of the descriptions felt odd to me: blood is not magenta, when I think tangy I don't think apples (that would be tart), etc. It's not really a believable story, but it was interesting. Ollie reminded me of Chuck Bass.

The story needs some major credits. Because it has been ignored while it really should be praised. A story of tangled mysteries and deceits sat well together in an organized and thought-through plot. It is a very good sample for anti-bullying books-which I adore myself, since this issue does need more attention- but it’s also good read for teenagers. The writing is compelling and you can pretty much get involved with the story. The main character is tangible and familiar and you can warm up to her quiet fast- and that’s interesting because she is actually facing a character crisis. If I ever wanted to write a mystery book for the young adult genre, I would have wanted to be able to write like this.

After someone tries to kill Jane, she awakes with a sketchy memory at best. I like how we, the readers get the clues as she does and have to decide if they are real, or fragments of other events, or drug induced hallucinations, or if she is descending into paranoid delusions. Some of the secondary stories (ie, grade school friend, Scott, Elsa)I think could have been left out, and some of them seem forced. Reminded me why I hated High School.

I think this is the first time that I have a read a book and found all the characters irritating. Well, I like Pete, but there were still times when I rolled my eyes at what he said. I kept finding myself unconsciously rewriting the book and I know that's kind of my own fault I couldn't help thinking that there's a lot that could've been done to improve here. The same themes kept repeating themselves which got quite annoying after the first 50 times Jane mentioned her popularity. We get it, your popularity has come out of nowhere and you love it - now shut up about it!

For me most of the characters lacked development (until they all went haywire at the end). I wanted to know why her mother had changed so much, when she'd seemed to have accepted Jane's father's death. Just a bit more time taken to write in a few paragraphs would have satisfied that. I actually like Scott until he turned into a nutter near the end. I don't understand why the author felt the need to turn him into a creep when he had been a perfectly good friend to Jane.

And lastly: Langley! What? I don't understand her motives for murder at all; all I can make out is that she wanted to get Jane's idiot of a boyfriend! Wait a few days and they'll have broken up, he's already cheated on her anyway! Also, it didn't take Jane long to get over David - she was with Pete basically straight after they broke up!

However I really love the idea for the story, it definitely had some potential.

In conclusion, a book about unnecessary teenage drama with a bit of attempted murder thrown in the mix.

Listen, Michele Jaffe, I like you. I do. Also, I like your books. You are funny. That interview you did? Where they had you play MASH? And you put Santa as one of your husband possibilities? That was hilar. But this book! You were trying to be serious! Why? Why did you do that? It's like when I don't smile in pictures. It just doesn't work so I don't do it. Please don't ever do this again, ok? Just write some more Bad Kitty books so I can lol some. Also, your ending was a tiny bit dumb. Just saying.
