For those of us fortunate to have a piece of jewelry inherited from a family member, we know its importance. It connects to the past and keeps a part of a loved one alive. The true value is in the memories. For the children of Lizzie Schneider, her eleven-carat diamond ring is a symbol of their parents’ marriage yet when it is discovered after believing it was long lost, it could also be a financial windfall. This disconnected family has to decide what to do about the ring.

In the eyes of siblings Addy, Nathan and Courtney, their parents, Lizzie and Ritchie, had a storybook romance for the ages. But the marriage had its problems, mostly caused by Ritchie’s gambling addiction. To get back in Lizzie’s good graces, he gives her a huge diamond ring, which was reminiscent of the ring Richard Burton gave to Liz Taylor. Lizzie was named after the actress and idolized her, making the ring even more meaningful.

The Liz Taylor Ring takes place in two time periods. In present day, the children find that life becomes even more complicated after the ring is found. Secrets and hidden feelings come to the surface. And starting in the 1970s, the story of how Lizzie and Ritchie met and married is also detailed. After first dating Lizzie’s sister Maggie, Ritchie woos and wins Lizzie’s heart. But real life is not like the movies.

Author Janowitz has written a very enjoyable book. While not all of the characters are likeable, like diamonds, people have their flaws. This engaging book deals with serious issues such as family turmoil, alcohol and gambling addiction, yet the story never gets too heavy as we are treated to a bevy of movie references that should delight those who are familiar with classic films. How could you not sing the praises of a book that has two of the siblings named after characters in Guys and Dolls (Adelaide and Nathan)? And I may have to re-watch Suddenly, Last Summer, one of my favorite Elizabeth Taylor movies, which also stars the incomparable Montgomery Clift.

The story was ok. I don't exactly know what I was expecting, but it was an enjoyable read. The story goes between 2 time lines and different perspectives. It has a predictable ending and I would consider this a nice summer read.

I expected a work of historical fiction, but instead found a rich contemporary tale of a family in crisis. Glimpses back in to the past don't give away much of Liz and Dick, but the flashbacks to parents, Lizzie and Ritchie, fill in gaps of what can be true when different tales are told. I could NOT put this down - it's a great, fast read.

First of all, I didn’t read any reviews before reading this book. I saw it randomly at the library and thought “sounds interesting,” so I got it. I got bored with it pretty quickly, but kept thinking “this could easily take a good turn” and kept on trucking. It just didn’t grab my attention and pull me in like the story had potential.
I also felt like there were issues with the writing. Did anyone else notice a huge hole in the plot or was I just not paying attention?? The ring was missing from the safe when the girls got held at the casino, but it seemed to magically reappear back into the picture??

My copy also had quite a few lines where the spaces were missing between words, which wasn’t a huge ordeal but was confusing.

4.75 ⭐s for The Liz Taylor Ring. I knew going in I'd love this novel. Why?
1. Brenda Janowitz wrote it and I loved her last book.
2. It's a historical fiction novel
3. That cover pulled me in ever since I first saw it.
The novel starts out in 1978 with Lizzie Morgan and Ritchie Scheider. They have a whirlwind romance that has ups and downs for sure. The finally happens after a nine month separation that ends with Ritchie presenting Lizzie with a eleven carat diamond that looks suspiciously like Liz Taylor's ring.
A few decades later the ring resurfaces and the family comes together for the first time in years to argue over who gets it.
This novel had intrigue, mystery and family ties. I loved the disfunction in the Scheider family so much. It was comical at times.

A faulty family, a famous ring, and a fact-finding mystery. Three siblings have three different recollections of what happened to their mother’s ring. Who is right? Who is wrong? But wait a minute… They all thought the ring to be lost and yet, here it is hidden in a bank safety box in the Cayman Islands. Who is the rightful owner now? This is THE LIZ TAYLOR RING by Brenda Janowitz in a nutshell. I enjoyed the writing and the way the author developed the relationship between the two sisters and brother. The story is interesting from beginning to end. It was great to discover page after page the family history and what happened to that famous ring.

I enjoyed this quite a bit.

My Thoughts:

- Lizzie and Ritchie have a romance for the ages, much like Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, but Ritchie's gambling problem causes trouble in paradise. After a 9 month separation, Ritchie gives Lizzie a big-a diamond ring. It is similar to the one that Burton gifted to Taylor. Flash forward a couple decades and the children of Lizzie and Ritchie all have different stories about what happened to the ring, so no one knows what to think when the ring suddenly shows up again.

- The story starts out great. I was highly invested in the family and the mystery, but I slowly lost interest. Towards the end, I felt like circumstances and happenings were convenient and unimaginative.

- I loved all the Elizabeth Taylor references, and I loved Lizzie and Ritchie's relationship.

- The book made me want to watch all the Elizabeth Taylor movies.

This read was soo good! Thank you to Harlequin, the author and NetGalley for the review copy! Brenda’s last book, The Grace Kelly Dress was absolutely amazing so, I knew this one would be equally as good…and, I was right!

This story follows a set of parents and their children at different years in their lives. The Liz Taylor Ring is the sole focus, where it goes, whom it goes to and what actually happens with it. The parents, Lizzie & Ritchie fall madly in love but, have bumps across their lives in part to Ritchie’s gambling. Their children, Addy, Nathan and Courtney are summoned to the Cayman Islands after Lizzie’s death. Apparently there is a safe deposit box that has been damaged but, they have no idea about what the box even contains. Is money what moves people, love, family or none of these?

I truly enjoyed this read, it was good with drawing me in from the beginning and keeping me engaged throughout the story. I never found it to be boring or have moments of wishing I was doing something else. We’ll written, great character development and a great storyline.

I really loved it and definitely recommend it to y’all! 5 stars!
